hello guys,
after getting my beta access 1 year ago i played and tested a lot of things. Just every patch let me celebrate a party and aftert all this i just wonder, if there will be a commercial version in the local shops to buy, not only in ###### steam. i already have my key, but i would buy it, only for the packaging :D maybe special edition with a skulk statue? :D
so any answers? :)

NS2 is still a niche, I don't think such a game would sell that well in retail stores either.
Also GORGE PLUSHIES have priority :P
You can hold this all night, /thread :D (i want one!!)
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->I think the general consensus is that it would be too expensive.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I agree.
But maybe UWE could take orders and if (lets say) 1000 Orders are in stock they go to the local DVD pressing plant and produce the "special edition" and ship it to the purchaser.
(and maybe they could do that with a gorge plushy too...)
We will probably do a retail version after we release v1.0 but we don't have specific plans yet. Of course, plushies would be awesome too. :)

Expensive is expensive!
Although limited edition in house made box art and CD's would be pretty cool, especially for things such as community made projects, a competitive tournament and pot luck draws. Say 100 or so. That's doable, not amazingly expensive and hey, an all round nice thing, albeit way after release when "things have settled".
I consider myself a minimalist. I own very few things, and I absolutely hate clutter, to the point where it's difficult for me to be sentimental with objects even when I want to. Still, I would gladly shell out more than the average consumer would for a newly released AAA title (that probably sucks) for a Limited Edition with a behind the scenes DVD of in-house interviews, videocasts, and/or a book with all of the concept art, and/or Gorge plushy, and/or whatever else you can market.

Thank you.
Thats good to know :-D
<!--coloro:#FF0000--><span style="color:#FF0000"><!--/coloro-->But Thanks UWE for making this game for STEAM!<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--> Best decision ever!
I <3 Steam.
I almost to the point where I will never buy a game, unless it is released on Steam.

Games for Windows Live
*shudder*
i hate steam, from the first day. i miss the time, where i could buy games in stores. and get something for my money, not as steam is doing, digital.
<a href="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2747/4043251793_2d55905c0a.jpg" target="_blank">http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2747/404325..._2d55905c0a.jpg</a> like this, so much win.
but, if UWE will accept something like, order of natural selection 2 retails, i would pay every price. even for NS 1 COPY :D
yeah steam started rough.
but now it has smoothed out.
and its far easier to return a game in steam than in a store.
and ick i have to deal with GFWL for playing Dawn of War II
If they finally include age verification and a real try out-return feature (and return if unplayable of course *still grumbling about commandos not working on my windows*), yes.
And subdue Games for windows live and Gamespy, as in forcing gamedevs to remove those pieces of crap.
You can still gift things over steam. Just tell your family/friends to go create a free steam account, then Gift the game or email them the activation key. Of course, this is assuming they're not people who refuse to touch steam for whatever hipster reason.
But it <i>might</i> be a little tricky to wrap a Ribbon around that or some Gift Paper :-P
It's a problem without ribbons or tags? Without packages, boxes, or bags? I didn't know the Grinch had an account on these forums! :o
Write down the gift code on a card/piece of paper. Put it in any size box you want, and mess with their heads as to what they're getting. Have fun :)
send a big gift box with a small note inside. <i>'hey bro merry christmas! check your steam account'</i>

Honestly I used to hate it for the longest time, and only used it because I had to for certain games. It was poorly done at first and not terribly useful. It was buggy and I don't remember bandwidth availability being high like it usually is now.
Now I love it, I try to buy all my games off of Steam for the convenience (especially since my M11x doesn't have a built-in disk drive). Until I bought a PS3 late last year I hadn't been to a store for gaming purposes in years, except to upgrade desktop hardware.
you miss WON ID, admit it.
