Yes, for anybody with a large resolution, I can see that being too small. The HTML view is larger.
Interestingly enough, all that flash stuff can be done using HTML links and such. I love the design and interface though. (and especially the absence of a flash intro)
yeah i love the new site thanx bathroommonkey! does any one else just leave the site open when you go on the fourms just to listen to the music or is it just me?
I wish the music was longer, but that's understandable. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

Seriously though, I definitely prefer the elegance and simplicity of flash to the clumsy nightmare that is cross browser dhtml . . . especially considering our incredibly diverse user demographic. I'd rather check for a single plugin than account for different browsers and browser versions any day of the week . . .

Hmmm . . . we changed it to play in short segments because the general consensus was that it would drive people insane . . . maybe I should make an additional setting-- on/off/intermittent
Also, I'm very happy y'all like it (I didn't design it, I just did all the building)-- makes the effort completely worthwhile.

:: gives BathroomMonkey a pat on the back and a thank you :: Great to see such fine work by a fellow simian. Keep up the dedication!
[edit] I'm liking the updated FAQ and its ability to further help newbies who don't have the patience to see how much effort was put into making the manual as cool as it is. I've noticed keywords like "Gorges" or "Skulk" or "Commander", "Tournament Mode" and "Casual mode", etc. are set in boldface type.
I hovered my mouse over one expecting it to be a link to that term's respective page in the manual. They aren't links. Is this because I'm using an alternative web browser (Opera) or because I just came up with a possibly tres-cool idea? [/edit]

Just a simple static page of the 'main navbar' links in pure HTML is all I'd like to see stashed somewhere, to support the folks that browse with Flash off or purposefully uninstalled, to stop the sheer number of annoying ads most places are using it to force out these days. :-)
The flash layout is very nice, and I like it better than the older one where I would get annoyed at how long it would take to give me somewhere I COULD click, the new one for some reason doesn't have that problem that I can notice, which is a very good thing. The whole 'booting up the interface' is a lot more nicely done now, IMHO.
And to be REALLY frank for a moment... you wouldn't even need DHTML to do the stuff you're using Flash for, just basic HTML with some javascript mouseovers, no browser-specific stuff even. :-)

The collapsable nav pieces would be pretty tricky otherwise . . . . but I agree, for the most part, the site would require basic html. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Well, plus, the masked animations could be done with animated gifs, but they'd be 10x the size, and look 100% worse . . .

It's there, but unfortunately, I only had enough room to include the link <b>in</b> the flash file (to avoid scrolling), for the time being. But I made a frameset that's completely free of the flash-- just bookmark <a href='http://www.natural-selection.org/index_html.html' target='_blank'>http://www.natural-selection.org/index_html.html</a> and it should save you that whole ordeal . . . hmmm . . . maybe I should have someone sticky that, or ask if it be permanently included at the top of the news, or something . . .

I wasn't referring to DHTML.
Feel free to fire away . . . like everything else around here, I'm sure it's still going to change with time . . .

Flash splash screens are spawn of Cthulhu.
Hey, flash splash rhymes! How about that!
