<div class="IPBDescription">nausea vomiting staggering walk</div>was thinking it would be cool if the thirdperson model has some animations for the player when parasited. The actual parasited player wouldn't necessarily know that he is parasited, but the other marines could tell because occasionally the model would play animations that are gradually more and more extreme (it wouldn't affect your control or view).

So in the first 10 seconds of parasite the marine might cough a bit or adjust his armor because he's getting hot and uncomfortable, head scratching, visor adjustment
later he could start making choking sounds, and an animation where youlook at your own hands like they feel strange and maybe have them shake a bit
then later his walk could change so he looks injured or a bit drunk, reloading animations would look flimsy
later still, a vomiting or coughing green alien blood animation could play, and then occasionally stumble while walking

i think it would be a great way to show the effects of parasite on the player without annoying them, i know its a lot of extra $$ to get these animations in, so its probably more something down the track, but it would go a long way towards atmosphere

I dont wanna see this, if there has to be visual indication it should be only on marines armor perhaps the spot parasite landed it could grow a little to be noticeable (no effect on marine other than being tracked).

If trained marines start vomiting middle fight it is a big turn off at best as are most "sounds cool but adds nothing effects".

I dont think it should effect gameplay in anyway other then being a visual indicator. i would imagine it dosnt trigger if the marine is firing his weapon, just an idle animation.

    Cool idea.

In the progress page I've seen the less atmospheric version (and I think its status was accepted): The player name will become yellow when you aim a parasited marine. So it does the same job you are referring to - without animations.

If you know what your dog ate and it has been extremely recently you can induce vomiting by giving a few tablespoons of Peroxide... if you see the item has been thrown up then that is a good sign...however, your pet may not be able to keep anything down afterward if you give too much peroxide so be careful.. If you have pedialite in your home then give that to your pet after you are assured his body has gotten rid of the poison...

A better approach to help teammates translate what is affecting you would be something that could be telegraphed at any time. The 3D HUD comes to mind, as in the way the Xeno see their teammate's health. Another example could be a sprite animating around the afflicted marine, in this case tiny translucent spores floating around their head. Rigging every model to animate every slight gameplay mechanic may sound ideal but at the end of the day is more work than necessary, especially if it's designed to telegraph information to the other players, yet happens at random intervals.

it's likely that characters will show hit damage on their texture map, as in most modern games. So i'd say have a unique mark for spores, like a spot of infestation instead of blood. Floating spore particles emitted from the character would also be cool to make it a little more obvious.

You have to ask though, why do you need to know that your teammate has parasite if you can't really do anything about it.

It would just be extra stuff happening on the screen for no reason (not opposed to a graphic when the marine gets inflicted just don't like the idea of a persisting visual).

If commander could remove it with MedPack or something it would benefit him to know.

I like the idea of adding an effect. I would like:

Marine hallucinates and sees random phantom aliens. The code for phantoms is already included.

Would be cool being kept on edge. (Perhaps sounds like biting could be triggered too).

To extreme for a level 1 ability you have from the start. Maybe as a later upgrade, but no way as a level one free ability.

Well if I know a teammate is parasited it is extremely helpful. I know that his movements are being tracked and I can make informed decisions based off that. I can stay a decent distance behind him in order to use him as a sort of bait or I can wait for more reinforcements to escort him or I can let him run off and die alone. The more information you give to players in a natural way the better. So I think just a infection on the model where he got hit and possible some pheromone sprites would be cool. Nothing that would take to long.

I've recently been thinking about this and I would REALLY like to see parasite do more to the marine. I feel that the effects mentioned of blurred vision and health degradation would be more realistic (ie like the effect a marine experiences when walking on infestation)

Parasite currently isn't utilised enough in my mind as I can see enemy on the "Hive view" anyway. I'd use it more if it had a bit more guts.

No game play or visual effects please. Being tracked by the vicious aliens is already enough!

the parasite is still great (as it is)!
once all marines understand that "infestation = they see me", parasite will become much more useful.
i would have no problem with an additional idle and walk animation when parasited where the marine is holding his chest with 1 hand, but only third person and no effects on actual gameplay

I like the decal idea on armor where parasite landed. But I don't think it should have a different animation, the parasite is merely clinging to the armor.

I would like it to stay pretty much as it is, with the regular "hit" indicator for the marine, but the "you are parasited" icon removed.
