from the TSA engineer's manual
Please download this updated construction manual to your PDA. From now on, all TSA structures are to be assembled in this fashion.
The commander will use the nano grid to phase in a crate which contains the all of the necessary parts to build an extractor. As the crate phases back into the nano grid, take caution as the parts may spill across the floor.
It will be up to you to use this extractor kit to put all of the parts together in the correct order.

Your heads up display will overlay a 3D schematic of the extractor which will guide you through the build process, it will highlight the order of and location where and when each part should be placed.
Simply pick up the part(but keep your weapon at arms reach!) which corresponds with the highlighted 3D schematic and place in the highlighted area. Repeat this process for all parts, as listed below.

Steps:
1. assemble each of the 4 legs around the resource node - remember to follow the 3D schematic in your HUD, building in the wrong order will not work.
2. secure the nano suction nozzile into the ground
3. attach the main part of the extractor frame
4. place each of the nanite pumps in each of the 3 positions around the extractor hull
5. install the extractor control unit, and program it to start extraction.
All in all this new contruction process will take around the same time as the old process, however it can be sped up with multiple marines placing in more parts at one time.

Should the structure be damaged from a kharaa attack, you will notice that some of the parts will start to fall off the structure to indicate amount of damage sustained. At all costs, you must put the parts back onto the extractor to repair the structure.
Hopefully the Kharaa are not clever enough to run away with any of the spare parts, else you will need to call in a MAC to re phase in the missing part.
Update: If this new contruction process is deemed effective, be prepared that all other TSA structure will be deployed using variations of this method.

Skulks tend to say otherwise though... Hehe I can see it now...
Scenario:
RT is missing 2 legs... Marine reaches over to get them and see a Skulk running off into the distance doing the precious pup laugh :D
I can see some kind of crazy mod though, where you have a lot more rather generic parts, which you can use in all kinds of different ways to create and build new stuff. After all there are ns players, who prefer building stuff and creating unique structure setups over fighting.
Ignorant change fearing people gonna fear change.
I like minecraft because I can build pretty and entirely customised things which fit in with the surroundings, it appeals to my inner landscape gardener.
I like NS because it makes me feel like a pretty cool guy who kills aleins and doesn't afraid of anything.
If you try to combine the two however, you are going to get a confusing mess.
Same reason I don't go walking in the woods while listening to heavy metal. If I want something peaceful, relaxing and cathartic, I play minecraft. If I want to shoot aliens or murder marines, I play NS. Saying that you are trying to appeal to the minecraft demographic by including a put things together minigame has obvious problems.

i was serious *runs away to cry* lol
oh well i guess this idea isn't catching on haha :)
Lol. Minecraft NS2 will be the most popular indie game evar!
In this class your goal is to build all the structures in the game, you'll have limitless fun building while everyone hates you if you mess up the building plans, they will also laugh at you because they consider building for more than 10mins is boring and stupid. for this type of genre. But hay your an engineer and if it wasn't for you, they'd all be slaughtered by the aliens, 1. because they wouldn't have no turrets or defenses, and 2. aliens don't have engineers so their focus is in slaughtering marine soldiers.
I enjoyed reading your "manual". :)
Just one suggestion:

I don't think the MAC is capable of using phase technology. They can reconstruct parts by programming nanites tho.
Kidding, I really like this idea. Makes the game more immersive
Dammit commander, we need more screws!!!
"Screws? Where we're going, you don't need screws."
when the resource tower is destroyed it already falls into most of the seperate construction parts :) means 1/2 the work is already done :D
