8800 GTS running NS2

PapayasPapayas Join Date: 2010-07-01 Member: 72219Members
I was just wondering if anyone knows if the 8800 GTS Nvidia 521mb Graphics card will run NS2 without getting something like 5 fps and making it unplayable for me...

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks

I have an 8800gt (iirc the 8800gts just has more memory). Its playable, but only just so.

From what I hear though the main limiter at the moment is CPU, not graphics card.

Oh right, thanks for you response. Well, when I get my 8800 GTS plugged in I will see if it is playable.
Currently I am running on the 8500 GT and I am getting around 1 FPS, 5 max :D

I have a 9800 GT 1 GB and I get ~25fps on average on the worst graphical settings, 1024x768. If that helps at all.

Like someone else said, CPU is the bigger issue right now. I have a dual-core AMD at 2.6 Ghz.

    Cheers,
    Cody

I have a Dual Core AMD Anthlon processor at 4.4 Ghz. Is that enough?

    hiho,
    Have the same GPU. :D

Hope that my CPU intel q9650 4x3000ghz has enough power to manage ns2 at 1680x1200.

My development machine has a 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS. I run the game at 1280x800 pixels on medium settings. My CPU is a 3.00 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and I've got 3 GB of RAM. I'm using Windows Vista.

You, however, did not state how well your games runs ;)

    I am running NS2 on a q9300 with a EN8800 Ultra and 4GB ddr2 1066 RAM @ 1680x1050 and medium settings.
This setup is currently quite payable for me.

I tested NS2 on a few different setups and from my experience intel >> amd and NS2 is currently very hungry for VRAM. If you want to play @ 1680x1050 you better have a 756 MB Graphics Card. Also make sure that your card uses at least PCIe x8 or even better x16. Dont bother with PCIe x1 or even worse PCI or AGP.

Thats the card I run and I can play just fine. Average of 20-40 fps usually.

    I also run a Intel E5300 2.6ghz dual core
    6gigs ram
1600X900 resolution on medium quality. That resolution fits my monitor. The HP High Def wide screen.

The game runs fine with its ocassional hic ups.

GTS has: Higher core and mem clock, and more texture units.

BAHHHHH LN2? I find this hard to believe :P Or is each core running at 2.2 GHz? In which case I can say that I'm running an Intel i7 at 14GHz >:D

I bought a 2nd subscription for My house machine (got the 2fer deal) and tested it last night. , AMD athlon II x4 2.6G, 6G chip mem, 8800gts 1G mem. runs NS2 at a playable 17-25 FPS.

    Console command to view fps?

I'm running the game just fine on an 8800GT. My FPS is already acceptable as it is - I just get a lot of stuttering and slowdown independent of that.

I can step in with some evidence there - A few scenes from the Beta trailer were recorded on Max's machine. While the FPS was not as good as mine or Cory's (I think Cory runs a 4850) it was eminently playable and included in the trailer.

I'm sure an 8800 will be very capable of chewing on Spark once it is complete.

    /cry

The 512mb 8800GTS is a fantastic card though, I had one a little while back. It's based on the G90 core that the 9800GTX uses, so it's really powerful for an 8-series card. Mine exploded on me though, faulty power supply for the lose =(

I have a 8800GT 512MB and wanted to know how the game runs on that card. Thanks for the information.

get rid of vista, it's trash, i'll give u win 7, snap feature alone will improve your work efficiency. in fact, i think you should all go and get win 7 in the UWE office.
