Few n00b questions

Hi everyone!. First of all I'm gonna talk about why I'm interested on natural selection 2. Some months ago I bought the last AVP (yeah that crap), and I really enjoyed the overall gameplay of the alien race (even with that "autoaim console bull######"). I read on the steam forums that there was another game like AVP, a mod from half-life. A mod which can really make the player feel on an alien war.

After that I started unversity and didn't have much time to play so... Few months gaming disconnect.

And now I'm back again, and I see that the game sequel its actually in a closed beta. And I have some few questions about it.

- There are europeans servers?. At least french servers (I'm spanish and france it's not very far from here).
- If I pre-order now I have acces to the closed beta (I think this is obviously a big "Yeah", but maybe I missunderstand something so...)
- Has unknown worlds more game proyects or are actually focusing on NS2?
- Are NS2 like or a bit like the cool TF2 team? (Insane support and free updates)
- Still people playing the original NS? (So I can test a bit the gameplay)

I'm probably gonna preorder If you don't answer me anyways... But I have to study and I needed an excuse to do something else.

Thanks everyone for your answer, sorry a lot for my bad spelling. And please keep trolling at minimal xD.

    - yes, i'm swe, have no problems. (don't know any french though, but spain should be no problems at all)

    - yes

    - they are a handful of independent people who need a product to secure real income; ns2 is the ONLY priority

    - haven't played TF/TF2, but ofc the updates will be free, will be features added in after release (also for free)

    - yes, i can play everyday (not that i do...)

    For NS1-Servers in europe:

There's one server in france with combat-mode only, it has always players on it. But combat mode is not what you want if you like to learn the game.

For classic mode there's a server in the UK I think, [www.AbleNS.net] is it's name, and one in russia, named Ns.boxg.lv

AbleNS is the most played server, sadly it has a slot reservation. But you have a community there, that shows you the game and makes your start in NS easier.
Or they flame and scream for ban, because you don't know what to do. Depends..

If anyone knows another server, I would be glad. I really can only play on AbleNS, the rest is with bots or without any players at all.

Zen of Sudoku is finished a long time ago, so not prioritized.
and i did write "secure" and "real" before "income".
ZoS is a minigame that helped UWE, but NS2 is what's gonna keep their business running and give them proper income!
    hopefully, they so deserve it!

My pc specs are the next:

    Phenom x6 2,8 ghz
    2x Crossfire HD 5750 1gb ddr5(each one)
    4gb ram

How much fps do you think I will get with those specs?

Well, judging from what I've heard/read I can make an estimate of about 30-45fps with drops to 25. Mind you this is an estimate, so someone will probably come in here and tell me that I either completely underestimate your rig or over estimate it.

I get in between 20-30fps (drops to ~15) on a HD4850 512Mb, 2.2Ghz C2D, 2Gb on medium/shadows on (it does get laggy when playing online so shadows off is mandatory for me. And if the playercount get to 12 I have to go down to "ridiculously awful" to keep the FPS up.

CPU is the bottleneck at the moment!

Note that NS2 updates are not all about hats.

NS is nothing like AvP. And playing NS1 right now can be pretty discouraging, because the playerbase is usually very good. Though there are a few horrendous ones (the Olympus one comes to mind)

Then Im not going to have troubles running the game. Actually the phenom x6 are the high end processors of amd. I can run bad company 2 with everything on ultra with an average of 60. And that game its cpu heavy too.

Well tomorrow I have my last exam. (at last >.<"). So I'll try NS1. Of course knowing that the community are filled with hardcore gamers its very VERY atractive to me. I'm not a hardcore any more but... I still liking the "ambient" of hardcore gaming.
    If I have a good game experience, i'll give a try to NS2 :)

If you have never played the game before, the people who still play ns1, can sometimes be a little bit "elitist" I would try to fool around in one of the free bot training servers first, until you understand the fundamentals of the game. As long as you ask politely what to do you shouldn't have any problems though. Have fun happy gaming!! sounds like you will be on the ns2 bandwagon very soon.

Haven't seen the "elitist" in Ns2 all that much though. None of that

"OMG MAN WHAT ARE WE GONNAH DO MAN, IT'S GAME OVER MAN!"

Just a lot of peeps having a blast...

    @tango7esp
if you're not a noob at gaming, like you say, you will have no trouble learning ns1, then you can start having real fun...
    play this excellent fan-tutorial:
    http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns/forums/ind...showtopic=90930

also, Kouji_San's estimates are pretty accurate imo

here's a good getting started thread otherwise:

I played NS1 a few years ago, and i loved it! Now, I'm deciding whether to buy or not. Since I don't have any friends that also wants this game, spending 34,95$ in two games is quite discouraging. However, the offer is quite nice, and the game seems to grow everyday. I hope the offer changes, and I can buy just one game.

PS: tango7esp, yo también soy de España. Si aún no lo has comprado, podemos ver como comprarlo los dos. Saludos :)
PS2: Sorry for speaking in spanish.

Ya lo compre, por el especial de navidad me han regalado otra clave de juego. No se si es ilegal pero te lo puedo dejar a la mitad de lo que me costo el juego completo. Si es ilegal olvídalo xD.

Well I just tried NS2 (before 1) because im very impatient!. And I'm liking it. I can't find a server with less than 120 ping but I can play it without lag problems. Also I have an average of 25-22 fps. I don't know if the crossfire its helping or making a bottleneck for a bad optimization for it (it happened to me with fallout new vegas, unplayable with 2 graphics cards). Didn't take me a lot of time to reach the top on the score, but I'm not sure if is skill or because following a jumping marine with 15 fps its nearly impossible xD.

Es como si comprasemos el juego entre dos. Si eso agregame a steam (Ernst333) o te agrego yo para hablar.
