What would you like B160 to focus on?

Priority of the update.
I feel each build is a random selection of balance, bug fixes and content. Personally I would like to see performance upgraded before balance and content updates. Bug-fixes should come naturally in both instances so I'm not fussed about them (unless they're critical/game breaking bugs).

What do you think should be the priority of B160 (this does not mean a selection of other things can be included too)?

i just want that flamethrowers no longer blind you. a patch with just that would be enough for me

Ummm don't they do all of this at once because each team member has different skill sets?

yes they do. max works on the engine and flayra on the gameplay. flayra can probably do some optimizations in the gameplay code, but the biggest part comes from max.
and there are other coders, but i can't remember their name, sorry! i'm sure your doing a awesome job too!

What a crappy voting website :D It only shows the USA. Why don't they just implement Google maps and have the whole world? That actually works as well btw :P

to be honest the engine needs more work then the game atm : / (netcode, lightning, performance server and client...)
spark (the child of max^^) needs some more love !!

balancing and features can wait ;)

for the future my wish is that ns2 gets more parts from ns1 (not the combat mode^^)
the old gorge, welders, the old style gl, ...
:)

netcode and performance - everything else is just a gimmick once the lag is gone and the game runs fine

Pretty sure the devs will do what they want in whatever order they see fit. "kthxbai".

Its now (relatively) playable with a >10 people, so I voted completing the features, or at least adding in a few additional ones (e.g. onos, jp, exo, etc.) so that they can be tested for lag.
• Chris0132Chris0132 Join Date: 2009-07-25 Member: 68262Members
At the moment I still can't play it, the lag/crappy hit detection/crappy balance makes it unplayable.

Adding more content won't make it more playable, I'd rather play with mimimal content but decent responsiveness, then you can add more content and balance it appropriately.

i'd like the performance gain from 158 back. Warping, juddering, hitching mess for me since 159 :(

Also the bloody flamethrower just ruins games.

I never said they wouldn't. This isn't intended to sway the developers to focus their attention on something - it's just so I and anybody else can see the general public's opinion on what needs focus. Though each developer has their "preferred" line of work (balance, content, optimization, etc) a lot of them will have skills that overlap or they can provide some smaller fixes.

I'm sure the person who codes front-end things like the player and marine objects/controls etc. Can also provide fixes for smaller issues like hollow armouries.

its not a ###### democracy, and i hope to god jesus that UW pays zero attention to a gamer poll about their priorities

you people do not have the full picture THEREFORE you are 100% incapable of making an informed decision on the topic of this "poll"

KEEP playtesting and reporting bugs and commenting on the current gamestate, STFUUUUUUUU about "balance" and "focus" and "optimization." Let game developers worry about their job, there is no evidence that they are not competent at it, especially compared to you guys.
• Chris0132Chris0132 Join Date: 2009-07-25 Member: 68262Members
You know you could translate the poll as 'what are you still having problems with' which would actually be useful information, if client performance isn't fixed for most people, it still needs work, and nothing further can be tested until it is fixed.

I want to be able to quick switch weapons as a marine, currently idk if its a bug or not but i cant fire off 10 bullets in the smg and switch off to pistol for whatever reason. theres a good 5-8 wait in between. also the switch while reloading, idk if they took that out of the game or what but i certainly hope they didnt make it so that you actually have to wait for the smg to reload before switching to pistol. also

skulk sounds, upgrade updates (why am I getting marine upgrade updates as a kharaa), clearly define the upgrade path more. waypoint markers, and hopefully the menus will pop on screen like ns1 used to. that was a really great menu system.

I want them to focus on traction control and low CO2 emissions for the B-160

They should really focus on making Tram the level of choice for a wider group of players by going aggressively on optimizing. Rockdown is fun and intense; but it's not NS2.

Gameplay balance will never be fully complete until all the features are in anyway, just make some small changes here and there to polish what we already have so it's at least bearable and then save all the energy or start planning for the BIG rebalance-work that will come once DI, Exo-suits, jetpacks, Onos and so on are all implemented.

fixing flamethrowers would be great, you can spam this at any direction kill 3-4 people without aiming. And it has blinding effect, you can't even see where to go or run to. I haven't tested yet, but flamethrowers can be used through objects/walls, no idea if this was fixed yet.

1. reduce the fuel of this
2. reduce how fuel is drained
3. remove blinding effect
4. reduce the distance it can shoot
5. making sure it can't be used through objects/walls

some ideas to the flamethrower

but most important thing needs to be fixed is the lag. Every other detail can be fixed once you have playable version of the game to test everything correctly. As for bug fixes I wonder if they can be added quicker, like if they see problem they can launch live quick fix on the next game update?

Increasing Client-Performance but I would like to see more a realistic flamethrower like the one in Far Cry 2 also :)

I'd like it if B160 would take me out to dinner then give me a nice back rub. Afterward....

In all seriousness, threads like this just serve as another avenue for people to start up another flame fest (pun intended). Give UW time, they have a plan, know the problems, and think back on Max's most recent blog post...everything that bugs us, bugs them 20,000 times more.

Agreed, just work on optimization, balance will follow after.

Sure it's "playable". But hit registration still sucks and it still lags. It is barely playable. Not having a dig at the devs. I just hope they take into consideration how hard it is to hit an enemy (marine or alien) when balancing (reading all the threads on balancing issues).
• TagertsweTagertswe Join Date: 2010-03-04 Member: 70825Members
focus on hit registration, stuttering, lag,
and the flame thrower effect that players get when they're on fire.
I think the flame thrower magazine indicator is bugged as well.

with B159, I am actually able to play fine. But of course, I am on the lowest gfx setting. Granted that I do not have a high end PC but at the same time, I do not have a very low end PC too.

Try lowering your gfx setting, see if that helps. Also server specs seems to play a huge part in server lag as well. I've been in a server that can handle quite a bit of turrets and hydras and also been in one that cant even handle a handful of them. And all these was in B158.

Naturally, server and client performance MUST take priority before balancing. Who can truly test out a game and features as well as bug finding if gameplay is choppy.

I think the devs are actually doing a fine balancing act, they are doing server and client performance and dishing out some balance at the same time, to keep players happy. They are doing one hell of a job and my hats off to them. Its not everyday that you see a game company that listens to players and CARE about what we think, as a majority of the companies out there only cares about revenue first before player satisfaction...

People complaining about this thread obviously didn't read it all because I explicitly said "it's just so I and anybody else can see the general public's opinion on what needs focus" this has nothing to do with dictating what the devs should focus on.

How come "Turn the game into NS1 with better graphics and physics and dynamic infestation." wasn't an option?

Because development is a matter of progress not regression.
