Server list

This may be a terrible noob question so I apologize ahead of time.. when I view the list of servers available to join, only around 1 or 2 of them have any people in them (I am central US time zone, not sure if that makes a difference). Is there a way to update the server list (besides the refresh button) or add a list of more populated servers to my queue? Or are there seriously only 14 people total playing NS2 right now.

    Yup.

Every time there is a new patch the game floods with people. There are still issues to be fixed and the game doesn't have all it's features in place yet. So games get limited to how people can play.

If you join an empty server it generally only takes 10 minutes tops for it to get at least 4-5 people in it.

Currently there are only few people online because of the server side performance issues. Once these are sorted out (159 maybe?) servers will surely be filled on regular basis as they are on patch day :)

Be patient my friend. Be water.

Yeah I hear that a lot on these forums, but the server stability/lag isn't really that bad for me (except when turrets/hydras are spammed), and actually seems pretty good for an indie beta (although there definitely are issues that need to be worked out). Perhaps other people are experiencing more problems than I am :/ I am awaiting 159 anxiously though, each build is a dramatic improvement over the previous in my opinion (since 156 at least because that's when I picked up the beta).

On a side note, has anyone actually played on a different map besides rockdown? It's a fun map and I have nothing against it, but it's literally the only map I see being hosted on any server that actually has people on it (aside from one server hosting Ns2 Tram, but I can't establish a connection to that one).

Rockdown is basically the only reliable/stable map. Tram can work with a low populous on the server, but there are some bugs in there as well and Junction is simply to small with only 3 techpoints :/

player limit + maps seem to have moved to the forefront of low server populations

It doesn't seem to be indicative of wider interest in NS2 though. I've been canvassing the web on all forums mentioning natural selection the last few days, was surprised to see how positive the reactions and comments were post beta. Seems to be alot of people waiting on the sidelines for a playable game, and now expecting UW to deliver (an expectation which wasn't as apparent pre-beta).

Most major gaming magazine have an article or two on NS2, with follow ups. From what I can tell the game is starting to position itself well for a steam release.
