So, I just wonder what the idea behind replicate is.
I mean, I know what it does, I just wander what the gameplay benefit behind it is, except spaming sentries.
Anybody an idea?

(I'm serious. I just dont get the idea behind it)

After they balance res income and costs... u will see the idea behind it + Multiple Bases, RT defenses, Key room "outposts"... etc. etc.

+ Marine Bases die faster because they dont have aoe heal structures + powernodes... (powernode down(or infected by DI?) in an outpost = freekill structures for aliens more or less)

I think it's for emergent gameplay. Like SC2's Protoss' Chronoboost. It can be used for almost anything, meaning people can innovate with it. Lots of strategies will use it. Some commanders will be praised for "using replicate well" or having "good replicate timing". It's another chunk of strategy which can affect lots of tactics.

Sounds useful for making infantry portals quickly. If the whole marine team dies and there's just one Infantry Portal, replicate is awesome.

Setting up lots of observatories quickly would make good use of it too.

Maybe it can clone Transponder uprade Infantry Portals and Advanced Armories, reducing research times to zero?

It does sound pretty breakable, bypassing building time cost. Maybe it should be toned down (half building time or so).

Replicate is a little dangerous atm... especially when you spawn in hive and pretty much die instantly because the two comms just build 6 sentries aimed at the hive in as many seconds.

replicate is very sneaky. take down a hive, drop a cc on top of the tech node to prevent re-taking.

You upgrade 1 armory, then replicate it, now you have 2 upgraded armories.
    Easy.

Same with the comm station, you upgrade 1 and then replicate it, so you don't have to wait for an upgrade on this new one. Extractors, the same.

Yeah, the cost is a lot higher but you don't need to research anything, is already done. Two base, on the second you still don't have an armory, then you replicate it and is instantly build, no need to wait for the MAC to finish it, and it has all the upgrades you did on the first one.

Replicate is broken, because it uses the building's original cost instead of the higher x5 replicate cost.

A great way to use it is dropping armories behind advancing marines, or spamming sentries, since the cost is bugged...

That's how replicate SHOULD work, but it's not how it actually works. It should work by selecting a structure to replicate, but the way you do it is via the CC. Placing a replicated armory will just put a regular armory. It really doesn't matter though, as once you researched weapons, they are available at ALL armories, not just advanced ones. You could lose all your armories and you still have advanced weapons. Kind of makes it pointless for aliens to attack the armory once fully upgraded now. Hope they fix these bugs.

Ya, I think it just need some finetuning. Thanks for the explanations by the way.
I'll wait and see what they will do with it ;)

Well, the other day I did it and the replicated armory was the upgraded one, and you see it because it looks different in the top.

Well, maybe there is some way the game knows which building you are replicating. If you figure it out, let me know. You should have the choice of replicating a vanilla armory cheaply vs an advanced armory for significantly more resources. Right now there is no way to differentiate (or at least I don't know how to do it). Replicate should be done from each individual structure, not as a function out of the Command Station.

I assume it was because we only have 1 armory at the time and then the game recognize that one to replicate.

There is a replication menu on the command station after its been researched.
