<div class="IPBDescription">RTS strategy community to FPS strategy community</div><img src="http://www.teamliquid.net/mirror/layout/TeamLiquidStarCraftNewsCommunityTeam.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
TeamLiquid (TL) is a big English RTS strategy community revolving around Starcraft Broodwar (SC:BW) and Starcraft II (SC2).
They've just set up a FPS program (http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=169792) that's being featured on the front-page.
I think the NS2 E-Team has a lot to gain if they make a good thread on TeamLiquid pointing out the similarities and differences between SC:BW/SC2 and NS1/NS2, respectively.
The strategic aspect of NS might appeal to quite a few players on TL.
Within every community there are FPS lovers. Considering NS is more of a RTS FPS type of game, there might be an overwhelming group of users that'll enjoy NS.
The user base is huge and especially with this freshly started, community initiated, FPS project there seems to be a lot to gain marketing wise.
I have no time nor the in-depth NS/SC knowledge to make such a thread successful. The TL member setting up the FPS servers has already acknowledged he'll host a NS2 server.
It would require that you have in-depth knowledge about both NS and Starcraft so you can make comparisons.
What do you think? I'd like to hear your thoughts on this little project.
Some things I've thought about so far are below, but put into spoiler tags.
Don't read them if you haven't thought the concept trough yet, so I don't influence your creativity. I am not a SC:BW player so those are ideas are all up for grabs.
<span style='color:#000000;background:#000000'><b>Unit comparisons:</b>
Kharaa == Zerg
Frontiersmen == Terran
Onos == Ultralisk
Skulk == Zergling
Lerk == Mutalisk
Infestation spreading == Creep spreading
Hive == Hatchery/Lair/Hive
Turret = Missile turret (sort of)
Siege turret == Siege tank
Jetpack == Reaper (sort of...)
Marine = Marine (doh)
<b>Gameplay comparisons:</b>
Everything is about resources and the balance between moving out to deal damage to your opponents economy/base, defending your own resources and base.
Map control is important. Tactics points in each map lead to advantage by unit/building placement alone, but have a counter to it.
Some <b>lines/quote</b> I had floating around in my head:
"Ever wanted to control a zergling in first person view to chew up a delicious marine?"
"Who hasn't had the urge to play an Ultralisk so you can slice through a squad of marines as if they were butter?"
"Have you ever felt like entering the game in first person, looking around the creep spread as a new born zergling?</span>
Anyone up for the writing of a good post for the TeamLiquid website?
Let's use this thread as a brainstorm
I'll keep track of this post, be on irc or you can contact me by pm on this forum if you want get in touch with me.

I'm sure those sc guys would be able to contribute.
Anyone got a respected presence on their forum?
Someone willing to write the post.
I am but a beginning forum user on TL, but I'm pretty sure I can make it work regardless. As long as the article looks great.
Nevertheless, someone with respected forum presence, as you put it so gently, is much, much better.
I think the main focus of the post would rely on the fact that the users are playing Starcraft in first person. If we can emphasize that I have my hopes up high for a great success.

First post can be inforamtive. I usually do first posts like that, bring something they could use or is in their general field of interest... Here my first post was of mah NS1 map ns_achio (still the only map with a dual button door and weldable resnode+bacteria infested resnodes mind you!)
So you where responsible for the phasegate-through-the-bulkhead-sit-in-a-node exploitable map?
I have put serious thought into contacting them once my channel is big enough for them to take me seriously. I wanted to pay for a shoutout earlier but I couldn't find an appropriate way to communicate with them. Obvious ones like YouTube PM and email are out: The former is likely full of spam and the latter they have screened by TGS for 'requests for advertising.'
If anyone has any contact ideas, let me know and I will try to throw the channel name behind contacting them. Only 900 subs at the moment though so to them I am a flea.
Btw.. did you read mine? I think responding to ns2 trailers posted by machinima.com with your videos to get kinda in depth view of what is actually happening in the trailer would help a lot. E.g. a lot of ppl think this is just another survival horror game or something. Like doom3, dead space, halo or whatever they are comparing it. If there's say one video response to this one fade trailer which immediately tells you, that not only the marines are players, but the fade also, this would get a lot of information to quite a lot of people quickly I guess.

I'd love to help you, but I lack the connections myself as well.
Indeed. But unfortunately I think that is the natural conclusion. Remind them though that NS1 came out well before SC2.

There are many ways to help! <u><b>Make good posts.</b></u> Introduce someone to our site, teach them how to play or watch the game. Buy a shirt if you want one. Write a Liquipedia article. Support our staff, say thanks when they do something awesome. Apply to our graphics team if you want to draw. Do some coverage if you want to write. We'll have opportunities to contribute in the future, whether it's helping our TLPD guys add games or our Calendar guys add events. If you want to help, there is a place for you. We'll be very appreciative. But don't feel that it's mandatory at all. If you're just a good, kind community member, you've done enough.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Now is the time to get this post up and running!
Nice.
Any chance you could link the post?
That's actually a very, very valid point.
1) Pointing out equality between SC2 and NS2 units is a big no no. What N_3 said.
2) QuelTos I did and I tried, they haven't been posted (assumed rejected, they must get 100's of requests every day)
3) We should heed the words of the thecowsaysmoo. These guys are used to game balance betas, not game building betas. Perhaps a few builds down the track would be the ideal time for our push.
Also, there're some connections to SC2 pro scene in competitive ns1 circles. They'll be used if the game is near in competitive depth to SC1 (or NS1). There's actually a chance of getting massive publicity but I'm won't tell you the details, but I repeat, the game has to be damn good before this can happen. We'll see.
NS2HD, current competitive players know everything you need to know about the game balance. You don't need to get SC2 players for that.
I don't understand this. I think you must have misread one of my posts or something.
Read: PainUser (3rd MLG Dallas) and Nadagast.
Just noticed a mention of Husky about a game called BattleDex and TotalHalibut did a review of ist (see <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKCyiKOzRtQ)" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKCyiKOzRtQ)</a>. If I got that correctly they just sponsored a tournament on TeamLiquid to get their attention. So that could be a way to bring some NS2 into the SC2 community.
Getting Husky to just THINK about NS2 would be a goldmine of new players. Did anyone see that video where he asked his viewers to vote in an SC2 V Assassins Creed vote? Suddenly 50,000 more votes for SC2. Imagine... 'Hey guys, played a few rounds of this game NS2, it was quite fun.' Instantly 25,000 people view Unknown Worlds, of those maybe 3,000 buy. Absolute win.
A few builds down the track, hopefully....
Just an idea
