Is everyone having a problem playing after patching?

DarkhandDarkhand Join Date: 2002-11-01 Member: 3012Members
I just wanted to get a show of hands because this is a HUGE patch and while I REALLY want to play NS I don't want to spend the next x hours downloading it only to find it's unplayable.

So is anyone having any success? Or is it unplayable?

Thanks!

There are issues. Servers with a lot of players seem to have a freeze issue. There are still sound bugs (rifle fire getting stuck and "looping" periodically).

The biggest thing is that even with decent ping, other players still seem to "warp" around rather than move smoothly. Maybe network performance just isn't optimized yet. Anyhow, you can hit people by kind of predicting where they "should" be, but nothing seems to interpolate smoothly over the network.

It's still different for every system.
You can download and give feedback to help the next patch.

Tbh I don't get your attitude, unless you have some kind of download limit.

Was playing some fallout, decided to go onto NS2 a while after the patch. Practically no servers up.

Still mostly unplayable. If you didn't get the game to work with the last version , the odds with this one won't be much better.

While you can host for yourself to see the crag shoot pretty orange clouds if you have a beastly PC , don't expect to see a proper game of NS. Even if you end up not suffering from lag , it probably freezes most of the players.

Have a look at my latest video, you will see that it can indeed be playable, with quite a few people. It depends on the server.

I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt since you are from Germany and didn't notice the misuse of the word attitude. When you use that word you're implying that I have some sort of problem which is in need of adjusting and/or fixing. I'll assume you were using a much nicer word which was meant to generate a pleasant inquiry into the goings on of my life.

I am moving into a home (New Home Owner Yay!) and we will not have internet and/or cable for an entire week maybe more. The new house also does not have much in the way of electrical outlets since it is very old. As such I am downloading a lot of multimedia to ensure we can be entertained during said weeks time. This will use up a lot of my bandwidth and Comcast (as with most cable companies) have a hard cap on how much you can download in a month. If you go over a certain limit they break your kneecaps and cripple your bandwidth. I'm not sure what this cap is, nor do I wish to test it. However 1.6 gigs of NS data which I can't play now because it's not functioning properly and will be useless to me next week or more as I wont' have internet is enough reason for caution about downloading this update.

Thanks NS2HD I'll be sure to check it out. Having a video will surely allow me to make a much more informed decision.

Actually its way more playable than it was before for me, definitely need a server limit of about 8 though or else it gets wayy to laggy.

Totally unplayable, lag and extremely low fps like in the previous patch, aparently no improvements or optimizations has been made in this last 2 months in this aspect, only gameplay and assets additions.

This is why we can't have nice things.

152 seems a bit hit and miss for people from what I've read.

For me, it seems to be run slight worse. Maybe 4-5fps less from 25-30, but I can say that the improved hit-reg and additional content is more than enough to make up for the loss.

HD5850 sits at about 45% utilization, Q6600 is about the same over all cores.

I didn't tried on a server yet, but tried locally, set the server name as "Local - DO NOT JOIN" and found that a bunch of brainless people try to join anyway.

Find a good server, with low ping, and 8 people or less. You'll notice a massive improvement. Unfortunately, servers larger than that tend to cause everyone's game to go into periodic freezes, so you can't play.

My framerate has both gone up and hit registration now works. I've come across several bugs, with the only moderate one being that animations and players are very warpy.

    Curious, what is your setup?

A lot of people have said its gone up where as mine has gone done. Was wondering if it was a Nvidia/ATI specific thing?

Did you get your hands on 153 perhaps?? (hah, just kidding :P)

My new video card seems to be performing worse on NS2 so I can't actually play it at all due to FPS, or at least I can't play it online, I can run around maps and look at them but I'd never be able to hit anything in a game.

So I can't actually tell whether there are other problems.

For me, game is really playable, it's just warpy. I have maybe lost 5-7 FPS but hit registration is GREAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT.

I cannot play due to even lower framerates. I also still have massive stutter problems when the game loads content it didnt load on server connect..

Oh and the server is maxing out a Core i7 core at 4 players online. I wonder, on what machines does UWE test? Prototype machines scheduled for 2015?

The thing about alpha builds are that they are not optimized, which means that they run differently on different hardware for various somewhat random reasons. A better computer will not automatically see a performance increase.

I played last night for a while. No cheats only the basic. Overall the patch made it more playable. I didn’t notice much difference in playability on LAN. But the improvements were nice. I was able to play (with some lag) on G4BTS pretty well, even with lower FPS, 15-17 vs. 30, until the server crashed. Joined U.S. Army and the lag was so bad that there were still frames lasting 8-10 sec. So the networking issues still need work. The game loaded from desktop shortcut in 25 sec., from steam it took 105 sec. I’m sure hardware, drivers, configurations and OS makes a big different at this stage.
