I've been alpha testing NS2 ever since the partnership with Wolfire's Overgrowth, and today I got my PC Gamer magazine. Imagine my surprise when I saw this:
<img src="http://www.cubeupload.com/files/41e29elargescan.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

Looks like they liked it! Keep up the good work!

EDIT: Seems this has already been posted. I'll just excuse myself and try to save face by saying that this is a nice high-quality scan for you guys. Even though it really isn't.

    "Hands-on with the beloved <b>Source</b> mod's sequel"? :P

Glad to see NS2 getting press!

    Also: Winter 2010?

Really? You couldn't have looked through page 1 of posts?

Well, I tried searching, but "PC" is too small of a term and "Gamer" gives too many results.

    Oh well.

At least my scan is slightly better :/

Searching for "gamer" would have presented the other thread as the 2nd result...

What's important is the publicity generated by this, getting the message out there will certainly help the NS2 community thrive :)

Yeah more publicity is always good but it doesn't look like they've done much research as some of the info seems a little off but not out-right wrong. (Gorges healing with their tongue? I thought it was a spray? At least it was in NS1, maybe it'll change. Meh.)

As far as i know, no alien commander is dead wrong, only gorge's beeing able to build wrong (no love for the drifters i guess... while it's the only *playable* class, they should definity worded that differently), The dark hallways is wrong (NS1 was far darker then tram so far has been), And no, NS2 isn't a completly new idea, it's just from the same guys that pretty much invented the RTS/FPS hybrid, and so far the only ones that got it right.

And of course, source mod is way off. The "lava room" comment is also off, since that's more then likely molten iron, not rock.

But all in all, it is publicity. And there's no such thing as bad publicity.

It's not a very good article, whoever wrote it needs to re-research the game.

It's not a source mod. *Referring to the original NS that is.

Aliens do have a commander too.

*No mention of the unseen fade either.

    *Edits.

Big gaming news joints never fully research the indies... or at least that's a trend I've noticed.

I think it's pretty remarkable that NS2 gets a nod at least. Back in the days when I read more gaming magazines, most of them gave any smaller productions just a 1/2 page review without any earlier coverage.

No, none of the art used in the article was made specifically for them. That is some environment concept art I created a while ago to design a landmark area that is used in the Refining map that is currently in development.

Really awful article. Misspelled Lerk, tons of mixing up NS1 gameplay with NS2.... The last paragraph is pretty awful too. NS2 is not a new idea obviously because it is a sequel to NS1, and half the games the author mentions didn't come out until after NS1 (Urban Assault and Battlezone it looks like came out in '98).

Though the author had totally awful research, he did hit upon one thing that a lot of players loved about NS1. Having no alien commander added to the asymmetry and made the game more interesting. I'm still waiting to see how the alien commander plays out before I pass final judgement, but I'm afraid I will miss the different team dynamics brought about by the gameplay mechanics.

Meh, Hive Mind will be busy with upgrades (gorge was responsible for that in NS1) and spreading the growth or something. TSA commander will be busy with upgrades and the powergrid and MAC<i>intosh</i> <img src="http://members.home.nl/m.borgman/ns-forum/smileys/trollface.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" />

(not in the beta release, but those are I guess the big finalized differences...)

Am I the only one who has to smile at the "why do we build a lavaroom again?"-description at the picture?
