Look more closely - there's a solitary point above 20 fps.

That's a nice graph which proves nothing. It's not I don't believe you but I've not seen anyone prove it with footage yet.

your internet browser abilities prove nothing either.
why not fire up ns1 and try the different framerates for yourself!

58 fps is like being on catalyst compared to 60. just as the graph shows. where do you think he got it from? imagination?
all the veterans talk about 200 being the best fps, try flying jp there, your lateral speed is like doubled.

here's another nice graph that proves nothing:
http://img382.imageshack.us/f/timemultipliervsfps21io.jpg/

they prove nothing but how badly valve thought out their GoldSrc engine

It does actually work.
I was playing on 60fps since a few days ago and could barely kill skulks early game. (w0)
I just thought I was terrible at aiming.. Then I switched to 58fps after reading some of the material on the subject and all of a sudden I was popping skulks ten times easier. I doubt my aim improved in the few days I've been using 58fps so it must account for something.

yea, OP should atleast give some credit/link to the original post...

Why is this related to NS2 though... goldSRC was indeed dependent on fps and netspeed. But why would Spark have such an ancient engine issue...

I don't think it does. I believe devs were trying to verify the NS1 fire rate so they could use the same rate in NS2.

different server could make all the difference. 2fps really going to make that drastic of a difference?

Always play in the same server.

damn never heard of it.. but its realy true Oo.
58 fps firerate is way faster than 60 fps. I tested it.

Does this ( bug ?! ) still effect the source engine?

If that graph is true, that is ridiculous.

It's the difference between attacking every third frame and attacking every fourth.

@a_civilian do you have any data (graphs) going to 200 fps and a bit beyond

otherwise, mad props to you for scientifically and methodically going about this stuff!

I have predictions based on measurements at 200 fps, but I haven't actually measured any quantities in the range 171-199 fps or above 200 fps.
• JirikiJiriki retired ns1 player Join Date: 2003-01-04 Member: 11780Members, NS1 Playtester, Squad Five Silver
200FPS JPHMG is crazy, given that its a "lucky" intersection point of high acceleration and highest DPS for LMG or HMG. A player who can utilize this is very very deadly. It takes a very silled fade to kill the best JPHMG's. This has been common knowledge in competitive NS for almost a year and a quite a few individuals have known this long before. 400 or 500 is even better for Jetpack. Haven't tested that much though because I cannot maintain that much FPS in combat.

On an additional note, this may be fixed in a in the patch that still might happen although not that likely. There's some discussion about how it works and whats wrong with it.

And mp, why are you stealing civ's thread. :<
