Hello, I have buy the game because it should work without steam. But now steam is requirement. I'm very angry.
Which solution I have? Because the previous version tested work for me. But I can't use steam for this reason:
- I want version lan, work without any way to connect to internet
- I work under linux and steam is not natively supported
Have you solution for me?

Even without Steam, NS2 was not guaranteed to run on Linux. UW did indicate that they hoped to add Linux support after NS2 1.0 is released. Only time will tell.

Regarding Steam on a LAN, you can log in and go "offline", and it will work quite well, with no internet access.

they said linux was an option, but not for now.

and you can use steam offline. so don't worry, everything is fine. don't be angry

Now now, there is no need to get so aggressive.

They said they were going to support Linux. But they then said that it won't be supported for the alpha. As for duel booting, you want him to buy a 100$ OS that doesn't play nicely with other OSes and have to setup a new partition if he doesn't have more than one hard drive just to play NS2?

I'm with soft raid 6, and I not have more sata. I want not buy windows and reboot. I wish stay legal because it's pc where I work.
I play very often under linux. For multiple reason I not want steam version. Mainly because I will need setup ns on computer unable to connect to internet and steam require 1 connexion.
And for adaptation under linux I think that's the game should by adapted too (hl2 engine seam work under linux, but the rest...)
And I want game when I just play. Or I can wait cracked edition, it's not very legal but I have buy the game.
My main problem is steam. The windows version without steam correspond to my wishs and work well under linux.

Steam is required for NS2. Keep a lookout for a Linux port of NS2 at some point in the future once Valve brings steam to Linux. There is no timetable, other than the devs expressing interest to bring it to other platforms at some point.

If you have already purchased the game, send an e-mail to store@unknownworlds.com for information on a refund.
