It doesn't look like you really have any speed, it's blazing loud, and you just kind of sit there... It's not like you're really flying. You're just sitting outside the helicopter.

And with rush hour traffic on the way home, i might as well walk anyways. Might as well do it in style haha. Don't think I'd ever want to spend $100k for one though.

On the other side, it only has a 5 gallon tank, and it uses 10 gallons per hour... so it can only run for half an hour, tops.

Ah, well 63 mph going STRAIGHT to where your going is not too bad, it would be like driving a old muscle car, but cooler :D

Not exactly the same, but as far as having fun with a jetpack goes, this one seems pretty sufficient while being much safer and usable than others.

Wait until they become popular. I'm sure you'll find plenty of secondhand units with new paint. Only used once.

On a serious note, the idea of personal jetpacks is incredibly stupid, for the exact same reason flying cars are.

Even if they become a real possibility, and affordable to the average guy, the sheer regulation of so many people flying around in the air would be a nightmare. I can't see them ever being legalised.

I'm thinking, by the time such things are a technical and economic possibility, the AI needed for them to pilot themselves would certainly be available. Then we wouldn't have to worry about stupid humans crashing them!

I'm sure Skynet has our best interests in mind.

Plus, we can't know for sure unless we test it!

Unless we try to pull the plug on it and Arnold is coming back in time to kill the leader of the resistance... We cannot put ourselves into a position where we are a possible threat to it!

Light aircraft are not necessarily expensive due to the cost of building something that works like a car, they are expensive in large part due to the regulation and required maintenance involved (every part needs to be cataloged, engines need regular overhauls etc.)

This also means aircraft hold there value very well.

A J-3 Cub which was the Model T of aviation would cost around $1,500 in 1940 ($25,000 in 2010 dollars) will cost you about $25,000 today.

Once it comes to that, airspace will be as regulated and enforced as road travel is today. Congested airspace will have to be divided into certain corridors of direction and speed, a lot like commercial flight paths. I leave you with this:

It's hard enough to stop people speeding past/through traffic jams or slow cars as it is. And that's just when they can to the left or the right of cars.

If they can go to the left, right, above or below the car they want to pass, it's going to get ridiculous. You can put as many rules in place as you like, but until you've got flying cars that will fly themselves with extremely minimal input from the driver, they're going to be a safety nightmare.

Very true, but I have to believe that by the time any of this comes to pass, we will have some pretty ridiculous autopilot. Also can't forget about the options for actually avoiding collisions that traveling in 3D space could have. Also by that time I can only hope regular traffic enforcement will be fully automated. Lazor beams.
  • FehaFeha Join Date: 2006-11-16 Member: 58633Members
nah, automated lazor beams might attack those that exit lane because of engine problems.

Instead it could skip having traffic jams and such, because as it is 3d space (actually would be good in 2d aswell) a very advanced monitoring system could controll each car and make people reach their destination safely without any delays.

I doubt we get flying cars that anyone can drive though, I bet that if it will be flying cars at all, it will be like busses for people and bigger cargo trucks for goods (the kind that is almost so big it cant enter any city, but have to hover above and let small drones deliver the goods). Not to mention small drones to handle just about anything from repairs to handle agriculture and whatever kind of job we might need in the future.

Then the humans all work as scientists, supervised by robots that force them to be healthy and happy (sad? well then they shoot you with automated lazer beams).

The future of my dreams XD. The flying drone part, not the need to travel by cars.

yah..frosty.. the jetlev, basicaly a modified jetski body , using its tuned engine to pump the water through a long hose into your jetpack, you just drag that engine pump on the hose behind you.

you can buy a ###### sports plane for that, or build one yourself for half the money :p

I can see a new watersport coming from that, racing along gates like those stunt planes already are doing.

And that is also a real jetpack, a waterjet unlike mr propellorpack up top... Or is that an airjet?
