Lerk Spikes Bugged?

I'm not sure if this is how it's supposed to be, but it seems odd to me.
I was spectating a game and saw a lerk firing spikes at a turret standing beyond a marine res tower. The spikes were flying "through" the res tower (hitting the model, but not at the "core part" that is solid) and hitting the turret. The odd thing is that the res tower took damage (and quite a lot of damage, it seemed), while the turret stood unscratched.

I've also noted as marine that sometimes spikes do no damage at all and sometimes they just rip me apart. The same goes for OC spit, btw. A couple of times I've been firing away at a bunch of OCs with a HMG, unloaded a full clip and taken no damage at all even when I see that I've been hit.

Anyways, sorry if this has been brought up already, just wanted to know if this is how it's supposed to be.

It's all about hitboxes. Since spikes travel on kind of an arc, you just have to know where you're hitting them.

yeh it has i think but , if u duck and hide half way out from a wall so u can see half a Offy tower u can kill it without taking any dammage , but it still looks like the slime it fires hits u , but it must just be hitting the wall.
as for the lerk it always hurts me badly but as for it hitting the rt and not the sg's, i think but am not 100% sure that the spikes bend ie fall due to gravity might not be but looks like it to me , anyway there are some minor hit-boxs problems in NS but i dont think u can miss sg's just aim for there base.

P.S. i find it funny people who run out infront of the offy towers thinking its in anyway as safe as ducking and shooting the half u can c. u can take out walls and walls and walls of offy towers this way! (just need the ammo )

I've noticed that with OCs too. There's obviously some kind of server-client discrepancy thing going on. Perhaps it's due to the server patches and will be nullified once a client patch brings us up to date..?

yea i experience that bullet lag all the time. As a skulk or marine i'll run by a group of enemy turrets and not get hit at all, and then when one bullet does hit me it kills me instantly with full hp/armor. That happens a frellin lot.

Nah, thats just plain lag. I've had many experiences of running around with full health, and suddenly a single LMG round kills me. Of course, what really happens is that I was lagging, there was a Marine right in front of me but I couldnt' see him because I was lagged, and when the lag resolves his 50 LMG shots get compressed into one and I seem to die in one LMG shot, lol.

It also happens with the bites too. I'll be circle stafing a skulk like mad, and then all of a sudden he will kill me from 3 yards away. =/

On Nancy you got a vent that goes from the resource room to the air lock, I think, near the marines main base (hope you know which vent I mean, its the one on the groundlevel). Well several times I attacked a marine inside it, bit him like 3-4 times (as a skulk) and still cant kill them
    Is this a bug?

Actually it happens with turrets too.

Spikes, acid bombs, and many other projectiles actually fly through parts of the turret (most noticably the head top part). But if you watch the turrets health, it actually goes down as if hit, when this happens. So even though the spikes are appearing to fly through the turret top, in actual fact they are hitting it. The spikes graphically continue to travel through and hit the object behind / hit the wall / a marine, but do no damage because in reality, serverside, they already hit the turret.

The lerk spikes aren't bugged but they do fall in flight, if you download Halflife Model Viewer you can view the hit boxes of all models so you know where to shoot. I looked at this last time as I used it to make my weak sig . If you look at the hit boxes you can be a lot more accurate.

To clarify why I'm a bit confused on the matter:
The spikes actually hit the turret, indicated by those small spike splashes all over the turret. No damage to the turret, but damage was dealt to the res.machine where no splashes were visible. Do spikes only deal damage to targets which they pass through and not those you hit directly? It's weird..

And no, it can't have been lag. It went on for too long and my netgraph looked much too clean (I usually never play on servers where I get more than 60-80 ping and a bit of packetloss) for it to be some weird lag issue.

Lerks is my favorite class, and I play it whenever possible... no matter how many hives we've got up.

Spikes are just tracer rounds. They don't actually do any damage. The spikegun is actually like the Marine machinegun... it's a hit-scan weapon with instant-hit capabilities... the visible dart that you see is just a tracer... I imagine it's there so marines can tell where the hell they're being attacked from.

The "bullets" from the spike gun don't actually arc at all... they go right where the crosshair is. I know this is the case because many times I've fired at marines down a long hall way, just to have the tracer-spikes fall short and hit the ground, but I still get the kill on a marine.

You'll notice all kinds of oddities if you try to aim the with the tracer-spikes... stuff not taking damage, or taking too long to kill.

Trust me... just use the crosshairs. That's where the REAL bullets go.

You'll also notice that when a marine lgm/HMG unloads on a wall, and you're not the marine, that it is PERFECT accuracy. All the tracers and bullet holes are in the same spot, if the marine dosen't move. And we all know the marine weapons are not perfectly accurate. It's a server/client thing. There was a REALLY good website about CS and how the netcode works that could explain all this rather easily. I forget the url though. Anyways, what you're seeing is NOT what is happening. Ever play bf1942? It's like that. Shoot ahead of someone, blatently overshooting them, and it's a hit. You have to MISS a tank in order to HIT it when the ping is about 200 or more. It's all server/client stuff.

Ok the hit boxes on Turrets are a little weird, you can't aim for the top part, or the bottom part, go to hit em right in the middle to damage them... a guy drew a picture.. I'll go find it and post it..

There is a bug though with Marines in the vents. I mean, I've surprised Marines at numerous times as a Skulk, took 2 chomps at point blank. Then they notice me and start firing. I get a 3rd chomp in before I die. Dammage? None. Once a Marine even admitted there was a bug in the vent and said he'd move out and stop being cheap. Apparently he was hiding his hitbox from my jaws somehow. This specific incident happend on ns_nothing, in the duct going from Viaduct Access West to Hive-Cargo Bay Foyer.
