Is there a design document for NS2 somewhere, or a feature list, or a brief outline of the planed game mechanics, or something? An alpha being what it is there is going to be a lot of important features not yet implemented. However in browsing around these forms I see information that seems to state that these things are not coming or are being change significantly.

Like marines not being able to build structures, I until I read the twitter post I just assumed that this feature was just not in the current build, now I find out it under discussion of not being in the game at all! This makes be very worried about what other parts of NS that I liked are not going to make the cut.

I bought this game assuming I was buying a standard squeal. NS1 with a few more features, some new modes, some cool stuff, but basically the same core mechanics. If the information on these forms is to be believed then I was mistaken.

Now let there be no mistake I would very much like to see a game like what I just described, but if this is not the plan for NS2 then I am fine whit it. UWE made one excellent game from scratch I am sure they can make a second. However I would like to know what exactly I have bought. Even if this description starts with an “our current plans are” or “none of this is set in stone, but”.

This isn't that helpful, but they've always said they are aiming for 1/3 Same 1/3 Improved 1/3 New.

Which is more new than your average games industry sequel imo. Although given the huge amount of whining about new game mechanics that are completely untested and the apparent attention the devs give it I wouldn't be surprised if NS2 ends up a lot closer to NS1 than originally envisioned.

Excellent, basically what I was looking for. It would be nice to have UWE run one of those or at least one that is moderated by the devs.

    Similarly:
    <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/wiki/index.php/What's_new_from_NS1" target="_blank">http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/wiki/inde...;s_new_from_NS1</a>

Less explanatory, but most are cited very nicely.

It's always the same story it seems.

Company makes a game. Company makes sequel to game.

If new game makes significant changes from the old game people moan about it not being like the the original and that is what they expect! (NS1 to NS2)

If new game doesn't make significant changes from the old game people moan that not enough has changed and the company is just trying to get more money out of them! (CoD Series)

Read up about games before you buy them or get your hopes up for either side. That way there might be fewer people moaning. :)

Except NS was a mod, and this isn't a traditional sequel. Big difference to let's say FEAR and FEAR2. Most competitive sequels will only stray slightly, and rightly so.

NS1 was not a 'paid for' product. It had a very niche competitive community. This served it well being a popular (free) mod.

NS2 is a commercial product that needs to be sold to many people. The company UWE is making it ~ 1/3 the same and 2/3 new and improved. This will be key to their success as a company.
