    Given that it's accessed from the hive and there isn't really any 'queen' lifeform as far as I know, hive mind seems more appropriate.

    yeah, but the Khaara aren't "bugs" and are lead by a central mind keeping them up to date on issues, while still acting as individuals. I still like Hive mind best...

    The head of a hive is called a Queen. Queen is also the most powerful piece in chess.

    I'd prefer something along the lines of "Overseer", given that the Queen's function is mainly giving birth to aliens, and then commanding them. Since the hive is the one in charge of birthing, "Queen" doesn't sound right for a lifeform that only commands the aliens.

    Alien commander is illogical, because commander is a word attributed to humans. Hive mind is illogical, because the top of the hierarchy of things that live in hives are always referred to as a queen. Like I said earlier, the Queen is the most powerful chess piece too.

    PS - The aliens don't have genders, so making a gendered argument against my proposal is silly..

    If you take into consideration the Khaara are ultimately just bacteria, the typical term used for a colony of bacteria is "Mother". Although, now I think about it, that doesn't sound very good.

    If there has to be an "Alien Commander" (which I think the old way worked well with gorges doing the building) the it should be called the queen. Going off a Star Trek reference the Borg are a hive mind and they have a Queen so I think it is what would fit in this situation too.

    The alien commander is <u><b>the head</b></u> of the team.

    It's organic, it makes sense.
    And it's hilarious and explicit if someone demands to be the leader.

    I don't like Hivemind at all. It's just the general term for the form in which the alien consciousness takes. It'd be like referring to your boss as "Leader Individual" rather than by his name.
    Overmind is better, but is kinda commonly used... I already know of an " Overmind" in another franchise...

    I suggest something along the lines of the "Central Will."
