Large Servers Crashing ?

<div class="IPBDescription">after 24 players it crashes often</div> hey guys since I've upgraded the cpu my new server I was experimenting with making a much larger server. I had it set to 20 public and 8 reserved. I started noticing it crash at the end of each map just before everything was torn up. This happened 4 or 5 times tonight alone, which is unheard of !

I didn't have this problem when my server wast 20 public and 4 reserved so I've gone back to that and I'll keep ya posted

anyone else crashing when it's near the end of the map or jsut in general with 24+ maxplayer servers ?

    no offence but running 20+ ppl on a server isnt good teamplay. Anyway it might be cuz ur cpu usage goes up throughout the map and its highest near the end correct me if im wrong.

    it depends on the server's quality of players. Personally I like large servers but that isnt' what this thread is about.

    cpu usage does go up but rarely exceeds 70% and so far with <24 players I haven't experienced another crash

    This is a bug with the Ready Room. When a game ends, and there are more than (I think) 22 people in the server, they all have to be transferred to the Ready Room. This causes a CPU flood and causes the server to crash and instantly reset.

    Does this sound like your problem? If not, can you recreate the crash?

    I believe this is crashing before the map has ended..before the readyroom. It's usually when the marine base is being finished off and *boom* hlds is gone.

    mellon that sounds like the known bug he mentioned. right when the game would be won, the server crashes.

    My server has been running much more stabe now that I've decreased the maxplayers. However, last night the game ended with a marine win and just before the map was to change the commander started dropping ammo and health as quickly as possible to burn some cash (showoff hehe). A few seconds later the map change tried to start and *boom* the hlds.exe console was gone. Serverdoc fired it back up. I spoke the the commander and told him not to do that in the future for fear of it crashing the server.

    The server was very stable until he did that. Coincidence ??

    possible, but the total entities for the map would have to go over 512 to crash it (a LOT of health/ammo)

    Nah, Lots of entities does crash the server quite easily (As I've found out from playing around with sv_cheats)

    I dont know if its just me but it seems that servers have been crashing a lot more since the last patch release? A few days ago I played 3 games in a row which ended in a crash! (on different servers) <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> Though since then I havent encountered a single server crash so perhaps it was just a one off coincidence

    I'm hosting a test server on another dedicated server.. it has little to no traffic and has been up for 4 days.. not a single crash. My other server under load crashes more and more often. I removed all plugins etc.. still crashes. I'm baffled

    I completely wiped out the hard drives on the server. I'm rebuilding from the ground up.. stock w2k pro + sp3 etc.. hlserver + ns re-installed

    Mellonpopr...what's the latest with your newly loaded server? I find my server is crashing 2-3 times on busy days. It happens toward the end of the game.

    I reloaded the os and copied my backup of hlserver and it's sub back onto the fresh machine. It still crashed like 23 times a day. I deleted the hlserver folder and re-installed the hlserver and nsserver. It crashed 3 times in a week so it's definately much much better. I currently have adminmod with fakefull running and it's pretty damn stable

    it's a bug with servers that have maxplayers set to more than 20 people ... NS currently has trouble when it tries to relocate more than 20 people to the ready room when the round ends.

    The problem gets worse as you add players ... A 24 person server will crash every-so-often ... A 30 person server crashes at the end of almost every round.

    Currently, to keep the server up, you need to tell your players to Push F4 when they hear the end of match music (the dummmmmmmmmm dummmmmmmm thing). It's a low tech solution, but it works.

    Interestingly, I tried just this approach in the game code. I thought I fixed this problem, but apparently not. I'll keep working on it, I might have it fixed for v1.04 then.
