Mouse sensitivity (and other settings) should be numerical + slider

As with the Source engine. You should make sure that almost all settings have a way to enter that setting numerically.

A slider is way too inaccurate and fiddly for something so subjective as what sensitivity to play at. Making it a numerical entry, as well as a slider, allows a player who knows his particular setup to quickly and easily punch in the number and get to playing.

Case in point, I've use mouse sensitivity 6.5 in all Valve games since Half-Life 1.

The trouble is that not all sliders are made equal in their values and really only correspond to how sensitive you are in that engine.

    That's pretty much a given.

However, having a numerical value allows a player to customize his particular mouse look speed to exactly match his preferences, and then record that number in case he loses his configuration through something like a reinstall.

Only having a slider leads to inaccuracies.
