Benchmarking Thread

Let's start collecting some benchmarking stats to see how the game/engine are performing.

Post your rig and your min/max/avg framerate.
I used Fraps and hopped in a server and tried to knife skulks for a couple minute to get some average use readings.

CPU: Intel Core i7 920 2.67 GHz (4 cores, 8 with hyperthreading)
RAM: 6 GB DDR3-10600 Triple Channel
Graphics Card: Sapphire ATI Radeon 5770 1 GB using Catalyst 10.5
OS: Windows 7 Pro 64 bit

Average Framerate: 25.72
Minimum: 5
Maximum: 87

Pretty bad performance considering my specs. Definitely playable though, slow enough that my aiming and movement felt a little weird.

Something is very wrong, in all other games when you look to the ground or a wall fps increases noticeably and go beyond 100, in NS2 fps remains the same O_o, it's like if the game drew all the polygons and lights independently of whether you are facing it or not.

Not to be a smartass but this is an alpha
There is a lot thats very wrong
thats why they let us in to find it all so they can move to the beta a bit less broken :)
good things take time
by that rationale the end product is going to kick ...
i cant wait to see the end product knowing what its like right now
and its cool i get to be a part of the creation process (however minor)

I havent had time to do decent enough play testing to get any kind of avg framerate
will edit this post with that info at some stage however.

Specs

CPU: Pentium E6300
RAM: 4GB DDR2
Graphics Card: nVidia 8800GT
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Benchmark results at this point of the release is pretty much useless. BUT it would be interesting to look back on :)

I've noticed that if you host a listen game (non dedicated) you get a huge performance hit. Mainly being of the mini-DoS attacks from clients spamming to connect ahaha. It's actually killed my router twice now, had to set it to low priority with QOS when hosting :P

CPU: Q6600 @ 3.4GHz (425x8)
RAM: 6GB DDR2
Graphics Card: ATI HD5850 (stock)
OS: Windows 7 64bit

Average Framerate: 35 (14 when hosting a game with 6 people :x)
Minimum: 11
Maximum: 80

This is at 1680x1050 with High details on ns2_tram.

Also its hard to compare results without being more strict on the criteria of the benchmarks themselves. What map? settings? resolution? listen server or not? etc etc

It's pointless to benchmark as framerate optimization will be ongoing for the coming months and years...
• PepeNZPepeNZ Join Date: 2009-05-26 Member: 67485Members
sure but wouldn't it be fun to look back in 6 months and see where we were?
this is almost like a "how has NS2 improved" thread
i kinda like it
and be cool if people could do like monthly updates to track the progress :)

just my opinion of course

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 @ 2.00Ghz
RAM: 4,00 GB
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon 3650 - 512 MB
OS: Windows 7 x64

Resolution: 1280 x 720 (High settings)
Average Framerate: 8
Minimum: 3
Maximum: 20

Just tested it on high settings, changing it to 'rediculously aweful' doesn't even make that much of a difference to be honest. Just not getting the framerate I should be having, looking at the visuals I'm getting and comparing to other games. (But we all have this problem right now, I know.) Looks mostly to be the complex lighting system and way things are being rendered.

As a baseline, this is a neat idea. I'd like to see a new benchmarking thread maybe once every two weeks -- to see how engine performance optimization is going. Someone could even make a neat graph.

I've set up a google spreadsheet for this and entered in some values.

No there's definitely 9000.

I counted all the heads and divided by 3 to make sure!
