Key doesn't work

I try to enter my special edition key which comes today.
But steam gives me this error:

"Please first activate the original game.

The product code you've entered requires ownership of another product before activation."

What does this mean? This is not an expansion pack or something like that, right?

Can the cd-key sent to me clashed with another game key?

    You are given 2 Keys for the game.

    One says "NS2 Game Key" this is what you need to enter first.
    the second is "Black armor/alpha access key" which you need to enter second.

    were there two keys in the email you got? Try using the first key then the second key

    what you mean with "the said e-mail"?
    I received two e-mail today, one is "Play the NS2 Alpha tonight" and the other one is "Natural Selection 2 Steam Key" and there is only one key in there.

    but thanks to the retrieve link you gave, I got two keys now, and successfuly activated game. thank you silver_fox.

    there was a special edition preorder key you got when you first preordered then today they gave out the special black suit whatever key which is used to access the alpha AFTER you already register the SE key you first got threw steam... ie activate product on steam or whatever it says....


    wtb bigger search box on top of forums page... or maybe nothing but a search box on a page pre forums...

    The second key is the Black Armor key, which activates the Alpha.

    read it,
    the e-mail just say
    "In order to play, you will need to activate your ownership of the Special Edition on Steam with the following key"
    it doesn't say "this is special black suit whatever key"

    btw yeah a "bigger search box" would be great. :D

    Thanks for the link to the retrieve. For some reason I was only sent one key (and it was the armor key apparently). Now everything is tip top.
