To top it off, I would HAVE to buy the terran campaign then the expansions if I want to play the protoss or zerg campaigns when they come out.
I would throw money at UWE if they created and sold a Skulk, Lerk or Fade statue. Nothing huge, just a 9" or so statue, they could do the Skulk leaping towards the front, or on a wall, or put the Lerk getting ready to take flight or something. Either one would be absolutely epic and would cost my wallet dearly.
As much as I loved the original I wont be buying StarCraft 2.
Some of the reasons I wont be buying:

Activision runs Blizzard now, which is a big negative for me.

BattleNet 2.0 is missing many features that the original had. And they put useless things that no one asked for, i.e., Facebook, and real ID.

They are releasing it as 3 different games. It will probably end up costing 180 dollars if you want all of them.

They are charging 60 dollars for first version of StarCraft 2.

The beta wasn’t as good as I hoped. I just didn’t really enjoy it.

I have plenty of other games to keep me busy. I have about 20 single player games that I need to finish and plenty multiplayer games to play.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see them charging money for BNet later on. BNet is the perfect Xbox Live for Activision, which is exactly what they want. Activision will definitely find a way to leech as much money as possible from SC2.

SC2 I have no interest in anymore, If they hadn't been putting all this hype on it for YEARS maybe I'd be more excited, now im just MEH. Although waiting for NS2 has me sitting on the edge of my computer chair hitting refresh every 10 minutes or so :D

As someone who loved the original, I felt the same way playing the beta. I could definitely appreciate the work that Blizzard put into developing it, and it was somewhat fun to me.. But it just didn't feel quite like what I was expecting. Maybe the lengthy gap between the games finally made me lose interest or something.
Is it just me or did anyone else have a slight issue with the game taking so long .. I mean it looks great and all but .. not 12 years worth of work great ..

the quality of the game felt like it should have been released several years ago.
I seriously doubt they put 12 years into development, probably the last four maybe five at most. I can see it being an idea after SC1/BW but I doubt there was much actual work other than maybe some ideas thrown around and put on paper.
The beta was hit or miss for me as well but I did enjoy it and I'm sure I'll get great enjoyment out of the campaign and the UMS part of Multiplayer. I don't do the ladder stuff and don't really have an interest in vanilla player vs player too often.
Never found Starcraft that interesting. I've played and loved all kinds of RTS's from C&C1 to Dark Omen to Caesar to Shogun to Age of Empires to Rise of Nations.
I'll be playing NS2 ^^ SC2 is waayyyy too much micro for me.
The way i remember RTS is like CnC. You build a crapload of tanks with a upgrade or 2 and you roll over your enemy. muhahahah. If the enemy comes at you with one tank, there's another tank thats good against that tank.
I'm sick of everything needing to have abilities and xp and such. I can't build a bazillion tanks anymore because this units AoE ability will allow 5 of them to wipe out my entire assault force. Used to be if you used tactics you could either engi rush or just send a crapload o buggies there and mess up the place.
I'm not an RTS player at all, but I really enjoyed SC2, and I imagine the single player will be phenomenal, I will be buying SC2 soon. I'd prefer to have it on Steam though, as that is my game library of choice.

Well for all you dissing SC2, stfu, your only saying that cause you cant afford both. I was only going to buy this cause i love NS2 but i found the money for both and i'll be playing both. So there it is. If u can only get one...then yes you'll only be playing one. If your getting both then your obviuosly playing both. Both are going to be great with SC2 having a bit more going for it atm with both an epic story line and good multiplayer, and NS2 having AWESOME multiplayer but no single player along with it being an unfinished product. But yes, the fact that many choose this game over SC2 does say alot.

Im more excited about NS2 WAY more than SC2, but i am playing SC2 campaign for a bit tomorrow, but NS2 a lot more.
Ill be playing NS2 till NS3 comes out.

If you have two moniters and decent pc, then yes
I just found it dull.

LONG LIVE NS2
and dawn of war (the originals!)
The only thing I'm looking forward to from Blizzard is Diablo 3, but other than that, I'm quite annoyed with Blizz/Activision.
You've captured SC2 in a nutshell.
War3 was radical at the time.. SC2 not so much.
