Those are our test servers. You won't be able to connect to them though because the Engine Test version of the game is incompatible with the Alpha version.

It would also be appreciated if you didn't try, because there is a bug in the Engine Test version of the game where it will continuously stream requests to the server, effectively performing a denial of service attack and making it difficult for us to actually test.

Same I too saw this yesterday evening and tried to connect. It only took 2 seconds and in the console said the client was refused connection, however the screen was all black. So I just /exit.

Only tried twice as I thought it's some sort of server for pre-alpha testing...

hah, I recall a sort of similar situation way way way back when (I think) 2.0 was being tested where somebody could download the client files and join the beta servers and take up room. The client let them join the servers because they were the same version, but ecause they weren't consti they would get kicked if they joined a team. Effectively people could sit in the ready rooms taking up slots.

I remember looking in my console when working in the engine test on a Friday seeing it spammed with "Client (173.13.*.*) attempted to connect with protocol 4 (3 required)"
I do wonder which person at UWE was accidentally connecting to my server.

I see clients connecting occasionally, when I test my map and use max_players 2.

    Stop it! :D

Ya I hate bars -- Maybe bars & numbers (even better a option in the settings!)

and if you hold you mouse the wrong way the ping goes down ;)

I think the reason they went with bars instead of numbers is because some people may not know what a 'good' ping is. My suggestion would be to go back to numbers, but make the numbers change colors based on the 'goodness' of the ping...

    0-100 = green
    100-200 = yellow
    200-300 = red
    300+ = black

This allows people who don't know what they mean to still make an informed decision about server connection.

If the ping goes down, you must be holding your mouse the right way. ;)

That's the theory atleast. I prefer to have faith in my fellow gamers that they can figure out something as simple as ping times all on their own as they did for the past decade and a half or so of online gaming.

haha true enough, and considering that the vast majority of NS's fanbase are technical degree holders, I would hope so too :P

Allow me to voice my dislike of the cellphone bars instead of ping, change the colours of the ping numbers to facilitate easy to read / understand status but please at least allow us the option of using numbers.

Well in that case, why not use both, take a coloured bar and put the number right next to it, Problem solved.

I like the idea of having the bars and numbers with the bars corresponding to a color based on the ping being good or bad.
