Suggestion: NS2TV

Heyho,

I know it's a bit early for tournements, but when there are some tournements or clanwars, I would like to see some kind of spectator server so other people can spectate, without being on the actual server.

WolfTV (Return to castle Wolfenstein TV) is a quite good example,
This is the basic scheme of the system;

<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->  [Clan server]    <->  [NS2TV server]
    |                          |
    \/                        \/
  [clan players]          [spectating clients]<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->

The NS2TV server acts as a client, and will be the only one who gets connected to the clan server/ or whatever server a tournement is playing.
The spectating clients connect tot the NS2TV server and an admin can take over the spectating client of the NS2TVServer to change the view.
So the NS2TV server acts like a proxy between the NS2TVClient instance(actually the same exe) and the spectating players.

I'm not sure how powerful the scripting engine is yet, cause I haven't checked it out yet. But if it's too limited, someone of the NS2 team has to make the modifications in the game.

Anyways, feedback time!

    It's exactly the same as HLTV. The server has to know it's a special client to make it not appear as a player and put in spectator. HLTV is used to record and save the match I think it's important for competitive matches, yes.

    I think the difference between HLTV and WOLFTV or GTV is that with WolfTV you can see the match live, instead of recorded.

    You can watch the match in live and record with HLTV. It's mean to have a configurable delay to avoid spectators to give the players positions and tactics of the teams.
