Will marines still be able to use mines as stepping stones?
I thinking my favorite matches were ones in which we would have bases built on walls by our crazy ass clan Commander. We got so good so good at that sh1t, some of the funniest make shift base setups. God I miss NS.

They should at least deal friendly fire ;<
They should at least deal friendly fire ;<
Wow I'm surprised to hear that someone actually doesn't like mines. We used to do other crazy **** with them too. If you aimed correctly at the base of a resnode (there was a sweetspot angle while crouching) you could hide a mine in the model. Skulks that wanted to chew on it wouldn't even notice until they hit it. Also, on maps like ns_caged where the marine start resnode was so far from the comm chair, it was difficult for a comm to jump out and deal with a skulk hiding behind it. We used to place a single mine on the wall behind the node and them prime it with i think one knife swipe and one pistol shot. This allowed the comm to jump out of the chair and shoot the mine from across the room with one bullet setting the mine off and killing the skulk.

Making them more annoying?
Haha, that reminds me of when I used to play the original n64 Goldeneye with my friends. Hiding proximity mines right where you knew an ammo crate was going to respawn was always awesome.
Mine ladders were fun sure, but I think fun is on the back burner in place of finishing the game.

That's why they're annoying. They instantly kill non-carapace skulks who just happen to not see them. It's completely bull######. At least if the mines did friendly fire, the Marine will get damaged too if I touch a mine near him.
Even if I am a Marine, I want to kill skulks with my badass guns, not some lame mine.

This Wiki page says otherwise :D
"The Mobile Automated Constructor(MAC) is the Marine Commander controllable NPC. It can be used to weld and build structures. It can also plant mines. "
So there is still hope!
NS2 going to be very casual.
Mines protect the base a lot.
This game completely goes to CS 4.5 or something like that.
Mines are the most startegic things in NS.
I'm sure that there will be support to NS1 system later, by modding or something like that.

Yes... with no mines we are surely ###### if our weapons are nerfed.

are you complaining about not being able to see mines and dying from them or just the fact that they dont do friendl fire?
mines arent meant to be seen, because the enemy just avoids them if they are visible
There seem to be a lot of contradicting entries in the wiki. Also it appears, at least to me, that there is not that much detailed information at all. Â
Here is what i found on nades...... Â ok, thats not mines, but weren't they supposed to be out of NS2 too?

mines were for noobs!? mine were actually a udge ally for marine in early game.. without them the games would be so much faster for marine to die..

As for Friendly Fire -- they DO deal friendly fire. You are aware there's a server setting to turn friendly fire on / off right? When its set to "on", mines will damage any nearby marines or structures, and even when its "off" explosives can still hurt the person firing them (just not his teammates).
But all friendly fire in NS1 dealt only 1/3 normal damage, so it was hard to actually kill marines with mines. To make things worse, the way AOE damage worked in the NS1 engine, an explosive that did 1/3 normal damage also only had 1/3 normal range. So your target would have to be just about on top of the mine to care about the friendly fire damage. You'd do better damage with just an extra skulk bite.
