    Until beta.

alpha will go until all of the features have been put in the game - this could take until the end of the year, or longer - we'll see :)

once all of the features are in and the major bugs are gone, the game will be in beta stage, and again this will go on as long as it needs to, so that game is polished into a final product.

How is the performance of the Alpha likely to differ from the engine test?

I read the engine test is pretty demanding and unoptimised, so if the alpha will be the same I might as well wait for Beta :/

they are going to do updates every week or so, so i'd expect the performance to change drastically over the course of alpha

Seeing the Black Special Edition armour is great; but is there any chance of seeing the regular Green Marine armour along side it for comparison?

they never promised a linux version, its always been a maybe.

having said that, in the recent interview they said there could be a linux version when the final game is released (so no linux for alpha)

    Fade is overrated ,-)

anyway, on the linux issue.... I would like a linux version, as I have all my productive stuff running under linux,  but I could cope with  a version of NS2 running smoothly under wine.

Ughhhh. You finally got me.. I put this on the "in case of emergency" credit card.

Looking forward to breaking the ###### out of alpha.

    /unstuck??

BTW can all you guys posting comments log back into NS1 and play a bit. I'm tired of eating marine bots.

Question: will there be multiple commanders for the alpha or just one per team?

strange thing is ns 2 is supposed to be released on monday and sc 2 on tuesday but why is then the timer of sc 2 ahead of the one from ns 2?

What does the Sc2 timer have to do with Ns2? xD
  • DeirakosDeirakos Join Date: 2010-07-20 Member: 72584Members, Reinforced - Shadow

i misread what you posted, my apologies. I read your comment as another of the "why is ns2 releasing at the same time as sc2!!!!".

Any word on how large the download file(s) will be (in total)?
In Australia, we have limits on our downloads and I fear that if I were to download a few GB of files I may be shaped (to a dialup speed) for the rest of the month, and will miss out on the alpha :(

    and,

Wasn't there a drinking game for mentioning SC2 in NS2 forums?

    and lastly,
Will we find out what the final abilities (of aliens) will be pre-release of Alpha, or do we just have to wait?
I'm also guessing that they haven't finalised and implement all abilities.
I just hope it runs first go off the bat. The engine test was buggy, and it is an Alpha after all.
MoH beta of recent, crashed for me after about a few minutes of it running, I shot maybe 3 bullets before it shutdown to windows.

It is just a 3 hour difference. Given waiting an entire other day would be acceptable in either case (we've waited this long) 3 hours isn't too bad.

Blizzard has offices EVERYWHERE. I think they are simply marketing, putting their release date in the most east timezone of the US possible.

In contrast, UWE is putting the release date in their own timezone; California.
