Nuclear Dawn
Genre: Action, Strategy
Release Date: Oct 2010
Description: Nuclear Dawn is the first game to offer a full FPS and RTS experience without crippling or diluting either side of the game.

omg, what a lie.
In the teaser video, it actually looks more like quake wars, than ns. But it claims to have commanders, buildings, squads and "completely separate base-building paradigms" for each side. So it may be in competition whith NS2.

Oh, and look what can be found on their homepage:

Ever since this swapped from a mod to a retail game and changed developers it has looked pretty crummy.

As 'crippling either side of the game' is an extremely inexact term it is quite possible to make the claim and not get sued over it.

Fairly commonplace practice to be honest.

What they call "crippling either side" i call "innovative and fun"..
Saw the game too a few weeks ago but it basicly looks like humans vs humans, very symmetrical teams. And that doesn't sound very fun to me no matter how much RTS they slap ontop of their FPS.

Hmmmmm, the vid on their website coulda used a few more Adobe Premiere filters I think :P Looks like more team military FPS/RTS. Plenty of other games out there doing that. I could go play Empires mod or something :P NS is interesting specifically because it is asymmetrical and low tech marines sci-fi.

I followed the mod pretty heavily but that's gone now. The studio that picked it up (Interwave, they made Stargate: The Last Stand for HL2) is redoing most things. I've followed the retail version somewhat but not too closely. I don't plan on buying it either.

This isn't a lie at all. Granted, I have no idea if ND's FPS/RTS interaction will be any different or better than Empires, NS, Savage, etc but every single game that's tried to mix FPS/RTS always has one side suffering heavily. That side is almost always the "RTS" part.

    ahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Really it's a wait and see on ND. They sound much closer to a FPS/RTS and not as much the lameo RTS layered on FPS we tend to get. Will it overpower NS2? Unlikely. It will most likely be its own niche since NS deals more heavily with awesome features like Aliens and walclimbing and melee vs ranged and stuff. ND sounds more like Empires, just actually polished and less tanks. Oh, and in THE FUTURE.

It's now being developed by the guys that crapped together this ###### tin : <a href="http://www.interwavestudios.com/projects/community/stargate-the-last-stand" target="_blank">http://www.interwavestudios.com/projects/c...-the-last-stand</a>

It has no hope. DNF will be out way before.

It's not more like QW than NS. Quite the reverse.

It does have commanders, it does have base building (of the same type as NS).

It will be in direct competition with NS. I guess we'll see which one is better on release, but I'm sure many already have their suspicions.

The logo is the Consortium team logo. It's not really much at all like the TSA logo. Look a bit closer; it's a bird with its wings spread.

For me its fail, i mean why you pay for something like that if you can play something simulair "empires" for free?
anyway i think its a bit boring to have humans vs humans...aliens vs humans is way more interesting and creative.
But wasnt it a free mod where the screenshots and stuff was a lie?

You know, whilst I think it's nice to see the possibility that ND would get released, I'm really not cool with the implied slight at the games that have come before, some of which have been pretty good & successful. That's a really poor choice of words for the Description, for my two cents.

I was wondering how long it'd take Crispy to appear, mind you. :)

I'm glad at least <i>someone</i> is making Source mods. But it's way too late, and the quality not nearly good enough. Source really was a wasted opportunity for mods, it's kind of sad.

This game needs more Rogue Warrior.

Each team can only have 1 of them(like the Commanders), and it is the player with the most melee kills.

    ;D

Because Empires continues to have terribad development progress.

It still needs a UI redo 2 years after the fact. What did they add? Particles.

oh <i>man</i>. I could tell you some real stories about the people who manage the 'studio' that took over ND - and they aren't pretty... I'll keep them to myself this time though, I've already had my career threatened once by Interwave's management.

It's a source game not a source modification. Slight difference.

I also closely watched Nuclear Dawn's progress and then abruptly lost interest after Interwave took over development. They are a group high on ego and low on ability. They do have a knack for writing PR material that leaves a bitter taste in the reader's mouth tho.

To be fair they have some talent. Taking Stargate: The Last Stand as an example the models and maps looks very good but it's like nothing fits together, the gameplay sucks, and the player is playing a game that looks nice but isn't fun at all. On top of that I saw how they develop games from behind the scenes and it wasn't encouraging. I think the best summary of their style is that they all want jobs in the industry and they're using previous modifications and ND as a resume booster.

From what I've seen, there are some talented people working on it. A minority of them. And a lot of people trying to use those people's work to further promote themselves. I haven't seen the full picture, but thats what I <i>have</i> seen. It speaks volumes that Interwave has taken work from the previous team (<i>who pretty much all got hired into industry, which is why ND development halted in the first place)</i> and slapped the Interwave logo on it.
And thats without getting into the problems I've had with Interwave personally, which at one point literally had me on the verge of being forced to take legal action against them for harassment and slander/libel.

I'd just like to say that our code was in a bit of a mess when they got it (due to a couple of changes in design), and also a lot of people wanted their work removed before the handover for use in other personal projects (maps, assets, including character models), so what IW ended up getting wasn't as much as most people would assume. They've pretty much had to start again from scratch with the exception of perhaps the concept art (of which there is a hell of a lot), some assets, and the existing code as a reference. I'm not going to criticise them at all if they can release a version of ND that plays well.
