also, i think it's going to have so many bugs you won't enjoy the alpha 15v15 at the very beginning

UWE will give us some servers to play?
or server will be opened by the players, exactly like in Engine test?

But at least it can be dedicated servers hosted by the community now, rather than just host games joined by multiple people.

So, will the servers be hosted by UWE of seperate servers?

Any reason why the special edition people don't have special alien skins too?
Other than the fact that it would be a pain.
I dunno, just even adding a little something special but noticeable would be great.

Not that we want to show off our support more than we will be with the black armor or anything :P

Anyways I'm glad to see some real progress. I'm so stoked to finally play. I'll have to put aside all the games I bought in the steam sale, but I so don't care :D

I had to go and check my email to see what version I'd ordered, and it turns out I did order the special edition. I suddenly feel so lucky.

In other news, any idea when we'll be able to link the Steam account with the forums account?

You can put you steam account ID on your forum account. I think anyway.

If anyone knows of a third party hosting company that will be renting alpha servers, PLEASE let me know! Got a ton of friends interested.

Hmmm. The most obvious question i have, and i think the newz doesn't answer it.

Is it a fully working "game system" which need only to get things like maps and some minor devs to it (adding some icons for commander etc..).

    Or

Like a "we got something that works" but can't play online or not able to test in solo a fight with a skulk (as an example). And at this stage, the Put Everything Together is still far from today.

So far UW showed some "demos". That is good and show that things are moving. But so far, no real in-game experience. I mean, some interactivity between the two teams (Kharras/Marins).

Closer to the former in terms of polish I believe, but no where close to what the final product that they want. For example, it already states they will only have 3 of the 5 known Alien classes in the Alpha. However, I am optimistic that it will be playable and not crash every 30 seconds every time you spawn a building.

    Excellent!

I must say and you guys should repeat... this is ALPHA, EXPECT BUGS! This isn't even a BETA version! So people before the "fun" lets find those bugs to work em out faster :)

I would guess at least one or two official servers, because you could use that to thoroughly test a dedicated server build or something.

No word on the price increase details, just that it will be increasing and the special edition is going away.

Learn from the mistakes of America's Army 3.... GET THE NETCODE SOLID BEFORE YOU RELEASE THE ALPHA!!!!

That is my advice. In any-case I've pre-ordered the special edition and I eagerly await being a tester for the alpha. :)

It's hard to test netcode without lots of players to test it with.

I don't think AA3 ever even released an alpha.

They released a beta and effectively it was an alpha because it had only a portion of what was supposed to be in there. It was a complete nightmare to play online with generally okay pings; pings which would normally be fine if not very good for online gaming. As a result the beta failed and lost support/momentum and a good portion of prospective players.
I'm just saying, if I had to choose what to do, I'd focus on the network communications.

im pretty sure we will be unable to play the first 2 or 3 day. (cause of server crashing and thing like that)

then the next week the forum will be full of bug report and balance suggestion.

the real testing and "real fun" will start 2 week after and by the time they will probably make another little update and add 1 or 2 things like a class or something like that.
  • ZEROibisZEROibis Join Date: 2009-10-30 Member: 69176Members, Constellation
I think they are covered in that it is closed testing not open (in that you had to buy into the alpha) and so people know what to expect. In addition by calling it alpha and not beta it helps put peoples minds in the right place. When people hear beta a lot of times they think of a basically finished game looking to bug fixes. When people hear alpha they think of something that is just barley together enough to run without crashing.
