From a realism standpoint--I think that it's fair to turn off weapon animations as a skulk, but not as a human. Humans would realistically have muzzle flash to deal with. The skulk, on the other hand, does not have his eyes inside his mouth and so should not be temporarily blinded when he bites. Thus, skulks can turn off weapon animations.
That said, I never felt turning off muzzle flash was an exploit either. But for realism's sake...
In game terms: You 'exploit' by using an in-game mechanism in a way that was not intended, to gain unfair advantage.
- IF the designers did not intend for you to bunny hop, then bunny hopping is an exploit. [and the opposite is true: If the designers intended for you to bunny hop, then bunny hopping is not an exploit]
- an aimbot is NOT exploiting, but you are cheating, and should rot in hell for all eternity.
- - -
An exploit is defined by the developers. Cheating is well-defined already.
---
Ask the developers if something is an exploit, because otherwise it's just guesswork.
1. I have a very nice system that has no problems running NS as intended. 2. I play with models turned on as intended because I like them. 3. My R_drawviewmodels came set to 0 by default when I installed NS and I turned them on. 4. I play all other mods with them turned off.
Now my opinions:
Turning r_drawviewmodel off IS NOT an exploit. The teeth don't make enough difference for it to matter one way or another. If you think this is some type of advantage, think again, it's all in your mind. Actually, it's huge disadvantage because you lose valueble elements from your view (hive site, energy read-out)
It is useful for players with lesser system to be able to maximze framerates. To say "Get a better system." is elitest. I recognize that not everyone has the money I do to just blow on computer games. I want these people in this community and to enjoy playing, not watching a slide slow of teeth closing.
Giving the players options like this expands the player base to include good players with boarder-line systems. This is a good thing.
If your worrying about this, then your wasting your time.
If this option is removed from the game it will hurt me (and you) in only one way. It will take those border-line PCs and their users out of this community.

marines can build things out of thin air. jetpacks? armor that can be repaired with a welder in a matter of seconds?
gimme a break, this game was not designed to be real.
i use drawview model 0 and 1, depends what mood im in at the time.
bunnyhop was seen as a bug that was exploited in tfc thus removed, now ppl chophop which will be removed.
