which is the best?
I know that Windows2000 advanced server sounds better for a server than windows 2000 Professional

but still, is there a big difference in the CPU usage on these two?

windows 2000 advanced server is for multi server management. Say you have 4 serves on a network. You would set one up with advanced server to manage the other 3. I had this explained to me at international paper by the network guy for this region. Pretty neat?

i use pro. i have pro, server, and adv server. the biggest issue i found trying to run on server or adv server is the amount of extra running items you have to kill or suffer with performance losses. pro has the same stability as the other 2 except its not full of a ton of other items that most admins wont use anyways.

Hi, Richo. There won't be a noticable difference in performance in most cases, unless you go into the advanced process handling of 2k server. If your into getting your hands dirty, then i would suggest trying a linux distrobution : You should see a noticable difference in resource usage with most *nix distros. http://www.linuxiso.org

Kik, I have heard that NS runs better under windows then Linux, thats why. before I heard that I had a Linux server. Whats is this "advanced process handling of 2k server" that you spoke of?

going from a 2k based server to a linux based server would be a serious downgrade in performace for hosting NS. linux needs more processing power than 2k for NS
