My ISP is bigpond atm, want to move to TPG but meh, cant get adsl 2 in this area, so bascailly if i have to download the engine>alpha>beta>open beta(?dont know if there is one)> release then thats gonna take up atleast 10-12 gigs ofa 25 gb monthly cap which i share with 2 bandwidth hungry brothers

so basically, please make it so that the alpha will use the files off engine test, etc, similar to how source did it with dling hl2 saves time dling cs next time.

WOW! 25gb is so little :/ Do you have bandwith quotas all over where you live? Anyway, i think that is really cheap of an ISP to put on bandwith qoutas... What happens if you exceed it?

the thing is, in australia 90% of us have a bandwidth quota, apparently some crap about it being expensive to set up here or something, so basically most isps put a limit on, depending on the isp, bigpond, which im with only has 25 gbs upgradable to 50-100, but that gets pretty costly, so after 25 gigabytes we get capped slowing our speed down dramatically, to dial up speed... yeap.. pretty damn horrible trust me

set your download server to nsw (telstra) and so long as it connects to the gamearena server it wont count towards your cap. use a program like tcpview to see what server steam connects to and you can cancel any non gamearena servers.

ive got 10gb bigpond wireless because its too much hassle to get adsl where i am

omfg talk bout the question , not about how crap someone's internet is >_<

will the engine test get updated to the full game?

There is no reason to use Bigpond as your ISP. They're insanely overpriced with no justification. Go with an ISP that offers you a lot more benefits. For example, I'm with Amnet and I get the benefits below:

Uploads not counted
100% extra peering allowance
Offpeak ALL WEEKEND

Probably not, given that the alpha is SE-only and the engine test is for all pre-orders IIRC.

I really wouldn't worry about the alpha, beta and first final version being released in the same month.

Obviously none of us can confirm if they will re-use data from the test. I know when I downloaded the L4D2 demo I had to re-download everything when it came to getting the full version. Maybe I could have transferred the demo files over to the full version folder?

AUS BB talk
use this program if you are in AUS and download off steam (its awesomely easy to use) http://members.iinet.net.au/~chapman.j/ - though still no guarantee the content will be on your server (thx valve).

Also unfortunately some people are stuck with Telstra due to where they live. Luckily most of us have options :) Oh and yes AUS broadband is fairly ######e but it is getting better. Many ISP's now offer unlimited or at least 100+ gig plans. Plus the big ISP's all have Steam servers for quota free content.

it was between vodafone wireless and bigpond wireless. vodafone has extremely poor coverage so i was stuck with overpriced bigpond

Yes, the Steam build will update to the alpha. I can't guarantee there won't be a lot of changed/added files though!

so engine test will be over, non-special edition people will not be able to continue with the software?

\me stirs up hornet's nest.
What of those who just bought the standard version. Will it still upgrade test to alpha?
• WarLoverWarLover Join Date: 2009-11-05 Member: 69276Members
I think everyone will get the files to the alpha, BUT Special edition buyers will receive a DLC type code which will let them play online.
