Alternative to plush toy (less work for UWE)

BiglinesBiglines Join Date: 2003-12-07 Member: 24094Members, Constellation
I remembered reading through an old post, where a gorge plush toy was proposed, but UWE figured it was too much work to do that at this point.

So recently I came accross this company shapeways ( http://www.shapeways.com ) which uses a 3d printer to make full colour (!!!!) 3d prints for a very affordable price (compared to other 3d printers that is), and the best point is even, it offers clients to make just one 3d model, put a price on it, and sell it in the shapeways shop (so UWE would only need to adjust their 3d models to fit the size of the 3dprinter, make it a hollow statue, and put a price on it), and shapeways will handle production, packing, shipment etc.

an example of something not unlike a gorge:

Yeah I've seen this kind of technology before except I think it was with miniatures and they had to be painted after. Maybe I'm thinking of something else.

ye, the old technology was just a white statue, this company now produces full colour right out of the 3d printer though. it will allow fans to just buy the NS2 stuff from that website.

Shapeways is awesome. I ordered my fair share of miniatures from there. Very correct and fast service.

Still expensive, for a miniature gorge.

It's great that the end users do research like this!

Maybe if they don't do cute little plush gorges or molded fade figure skaters maybe and this is just a maybe they can release some royalty free artwork and/or models for end users to proceed with, it would only help with advertising.

Hmmm, i have a custom mini-truck almost ready for paint......picturing a ns2 scene airbrush down the entire side....or maybe a vehicle wrap decal,hmmm... maybe....ya never know?

    I still wouldn't mind just a simple NS2 t-shirt. It would compliment my NS1 mousepad nicely :)

ofc a plush toy is cool, but this would literally cost uwe maybe an hour or two to set up, vs a whole lot of work for the plush toy, with maybe the plush toy coming up after release or something.

Hell, I even think their colour models are printed from a generic model with uvmapped texture, which is pretty much a straight export from whatever they're using

How much would you be looking at for a gorge shapeway model?

Shapeway models are all well and good, but I think where the gorge is concerned a plushie is the only option!

    +1 for gorge plushie!

As for the work, maybe turn it into a competition and use the winning design?
