What? no, they are exactly the same. Measure them if you want. Print it out and you can re-configure them as shown.

The area used up by the blocks is the same. Their just in a configuration that doesn't resemble a solid triangle. Seriously want ns2 now lol.

Yes.. but how is that possible? How can the sum of different parts not be the same when added up. No matter what order.

Xain, the areas are both same. But neither of those shapes are triangular on external edges.
Just measure the slopes on local hypotenuses of small triangles..

what does that have to do with the problem? ad the sum of each piece, then see if that equals the sum of the total triangle. If it does, then how can the bottom triangle be true?

The green triangle has a w:h ratio of 5:2 and the red 8:3, they arn't the same.

It creates a space by moving the triangles around, but it is the same area.

The bottom triangle IS NOT A TRIANGLE for God's sake...
Whatever you see on that distorted image, the intersection points in both drawings are on different sides of the coordinate plots.

Print out the picture and look at it from the side, the smaller triangles aren't actually triangles because their hypotenuses aren't exactly straight. In the first picture, the lines are concave and convex in the second image.
