When I saw screenshots/videos of the 1st person camera when playing a kharaa, I immediatly noticed that the view was from inside the mouth. I thought "Oh, I guess this particular creature has its eyes inside it's mouth. That's biologically so total bull######, because that would mean it's blind when its' mouth is closed". But I realized that on that in fact they did NOT have eyes inside their mouths. So, why are the kharaa's cameras down their throats? There doesn't seem to be any logical reason within the game world, just the fanciness of it.
Because it's alot more interesting than looking down the nose.
It's a nanite camera. All the player views in NS are nanite cameras. That's how you can see other players in third person perspective after you're dead.

What do you mean "ns1 yes"? The man asked to correct him if he was wrong and you did him that disservice? Correction: The only Kharaa that had views in NS1 that were not bite-cam oriented were the Onos and the Fade.

The bite cam is not only awesome purely ascetically, but it reminds you that the aliens are not your standard fps players navigating the map, they are deadly mouths of slavering fangs with bodies attached. You're not trying to get within x distance of the enemy so some unseen or detached weapon can hit them, you are getting those scary teeth to the enemy's throat by any means necessary... and yes, it does seem silly for the gorge, but not silly enough that it's a problem, just kinda completes the theme (better all one way than some)

Purely an ascetic thing?
ascetic (noun) : a person who dedicates his or her life to a pursuit of contemplative ideals and practices extreme self-denial or self-mortification for religious reasons.

Because it's alot more interesting than looking down the nose.
It's purely an ascetic thing.
Playing the entire game looking out of an ear (with teeth) would be funny.
Or nose cam, it'd be like wearing a very unsanitary gas mask.
That's not entirely true, it has much to do with gameplay as well, as anyone who's played with r_drawviewmodel 0 can tell you.

"Put down that knife and fight with your teeth!"
Oh the good ol' days :D
I'm dumbfounded by this topic. IT'S JUST A VIDEO GAME.... Jesus people, take it lightly.
If they want to put their eyes in their asses, they could SO do it!

mahahahahaha, thats good stuff..while their at it make the onos do the full digestion and switch to ass cam when it expells the remains.
Great stuff on these forums, thanks for the visuals.....lol

ascetic (noun) : a person who dedicates his or her life to a pursuit of contemplative ideals and practices extreme self-denial or self-mortification for religious reasons.
ascetic (adjective) : rigorously abstinent; austere
Safe to assume you meant "aesthetic" instead? :D Sorry, I don't usually call that sort of thing out. Couldn't resist this time.
By the way...hilarious sequence of arguments/discussions in this thread. Entertaining read.
