Seeing as the Spark editor does (and it runs the same engine as the game itself) I'd say yes. And it would be foolish not to anyway :)

But yes, I'm sure Windows 7 should support it.

NS2 can only be played on windows 3.1 for better performance.

NS2 is a strictly no-Windows game. In fact it does not run on any modern computers. You need to use the giant, ENIAC-style computers that fill up large rooms. You play by putting your commands in via punched cards.

Of course it runs on Windows 7.

When I bought the dev's a platter of cookies while riding my rainbow unicorn, they let me know that only Windows ME will be supported.

@OP Of course Windows 7 will be compatible, useless question.

guys you totally got this wrong. ns2 is not a game. so stop talking about windows 7 or any operating system, it is an insult to the community.

You never do know. I do recall a post a while back about one of the developers looking into OSX support, I recall that he mentioned he found new warnings or errors from the compiler and learned how OSX programs are folders or something like that.

On launch? Unlikely, but in the future? It possible.

i doubt that 64bit support will be available to ns2. even the most commonly used programs today don't have 64bit support yet, or they do and it dosn't work properly (lol iTunes). either way, it's not worth delaying the game further for 64bit support.

the map editor works fine on 64 bit windows, don't see why the game wouldn't run

besides, 64 bit systems are pretty common these days

It runs under 32 bit emulation, not native 64 bit. Most programs still do.
  • devicenulldevicenull Join Date: 2003-04-30 Member: 15967Members, NS2 Playtester, Squad Five Blue
Games tend to use 64bit if available.. at least HL2 does. It makes sense, since it adds some new opcodes that could result in speed increases.

Basically though, if you've got 32bit os-independent code, it should require next to no effort to port to 64bit.

afaik 32bit systems haven't been sold for years now...

ofc a lot of people still have 32bit windows installed, but the systems have been 64bit capable for years

still making 32bit OS's - windows and linux; don't know about mac. i read a rumor some months ago about a the next version of windows being 64bit only, but at this point it's only rumor.

That was not just a rumor, windows 7 was going to be x64 only. However due to listed lower system requirements on vista cause backlash. ( with a lot of them only because they where installing it on hardware that never should have tried to run vista because it meet the min requirements. ) Caused Microsoft to need to ship an OS that supported a 32-bit version. I personally find it funny to see all the people around me that have win 7 32 bit version and 6 GB of ram installed, trying to convince them they are not using it all even though Windows reports it however...

Microsoft should make Window 8 x64 only, it not like there no good reason not to, the cheep dell machines come with 4 GB now so...
