NS2 uses the Steamworks platform.

So does it use the VAC system?
for example CoD 6 had its own multiplayer platform while using steamworks

They have the ability with steamworks to accomplish such a thing as the matchmaking But I don't believe anything has been released yet as to how we will browse for servers.

Are you suggesting you want to use hacks? :P Honestly, I hope for proper server browser with dedicated servers. Matchmaking is beyond bad in large games.

I honestly think the UWE team should have gone with their own platform for the PC, such as Battlefield 2. Punkbuster would have been a LOT better :]

I couldn't give you a quote, but I'm pretty sure they're using Steamworks (a.k.a Server Browser, friends list, etc.) to allow users to find servers. Matchmaking hopefully won't be used. They stated earlier at some point that if they do move to a platform that Steamworks isn't supported on, they will have to come up with their own solutions for server browsing, so it stands to reason that Steamworks is the solution to that problem on Windows.

One could always use a blend of the two systems. Personally I kinda expect the "Quick Match" on top of the server browser, just in case.

Er, no, no it wouldn't have been.

Let's go with some simple issues:
1) Punkbuster requires you to disable some security software in order to work. Why? I don't know.
2) Punkbuster cannot handle DX10 or higher. Taking screenshots (one of it's main "anti-cheat" features) is entirely broken if you have a recent computer.
3) Punkbuster doesn't stop much. Go find any league using a game running punkbuster. Take a look at their PB config files. They will be full of two things: MD5's of cheats, and filenames of cheats. If punkbuster worked at all, neither of these would actually be present in the config files.

Of course I was being sarcastic. PB is one of the worst, standing next to CD check.

I think NS2 should use StarForce and SecurROM at the same time.

With a constant sustained online connection, and a 2 install limit.

No lan either (who needs it, right?).

I still think a guy standing behind every player with a gun to your head, who then proceeds to blow off you head, when he spots you cheating will be much more effective though...
