There is evidence that proves that Valve might be porting steam over to Macs! This is awesome. <a href="http://www.macrumors.com/2010/02/26/valves-steam-heading-to-the-mac/" target="_blank">http://www.macrumors.com/2010/02/26/valves...ing-to-the-mac/</a>

I saw this over at the Steam forums. Someone there looked through some of the code or something and saw some stuff for the Mac.

It's cool that they're doing this, but it's up to the developers if they want to add mac support.

Steam is easy to port. The source engine is the hard part, and there's no evidence that's going to happen AFAIK.

A lot of evidence in favour of Valve porting the Source engine to macs?

mmmm Converting all your DriectX calls into OpenGL...

If the source engine's code is strucuted well enough, switching from DirectX to OpenGL is propably not the hardest part...
well, does anyone know whether or not Havok (or PhysX or...) is available on MacOS?

There has been rumors that Half-Life 2 ep3 is being skipped for Half-Life 3, which could mean that they could be making a new engine that is Windows and OSX compatible.

Rumors or people just running around saying they think Valve is skipping Ep3?

Because Valve said they're not even working on Half-Life 3.

Aint that nowadays pretty much the same but somewhat worse and with a different os ? :P
Anyways.... it has been several times that steam "gave hints" about porting to OSX/Linux..... they hired a linux programmer some time ago so yeah.
And still theres nothing on linux eh ?

So don't get your hopes up.

I took it from <a href="http://kotaku.com/5452226/no-new-half+life-coming-in-2010-says-game-informer" target="_blank">this </a> and honestly, Source is already 6 years old. The UE3 engine is 4 years old, yes, but it is kept up to date by a company that is in the business of selling engine licenses. Valve`s focus and probable breadwinner is the Steam.

Spark has comparable minimum system requirements and looks much better than Source. It does not even have dynamic lighting!

Everyone will agree that Source's engine isn't "up-to-date" and Valve said they're not updating to DX11. Well, not yet anyway.

There are times when the Source Engine looks beautiful. Valve just isn't using it to it's full effect.

A lot of game sites are saying they don't think HL2 Ep3 is coming out this year.

But remember, unless Valve says it, it's not true.

I'm a mac user and I don't need steam. I'm too busy writing my novel in random local coffee shops (Starbucks is too mainstream) with my scarf on. The mac is just so easy, unlike those PC's, I mean I just turn it on and it works. It works. I'm going back to writing my novel now.

Steam has nothing to do with Source except that they are both made by Valve. Valve has a lot to gain if they port the steam service to mac and let people purchase/download/play mac versions of their games if any exists.

Steam going to mac isn't a big deal, nor surprising, but I wouldn't hold my breath for Source

And Scythe is right, Half-Life has always had a linux server so they've always had a linux programmer.
