Welding Yourself

<div class="IPBDescription">Welding Yourself</div>i would be overjoyed if you could be able to weld yourself in NS2
it would just be so much more fun i hate having to say "weld me weld me WELD ME!!"
50 times in one game its beneficial in both competitive and on puplic servers also
having to drop your welder to another person to weld you and him dropping it back
it just seems like an unnecessary waste of time

I'm fine with this but I would suggest making self-welding slower than welding teammates, like how the healing works in Killing Floor. It encourages teamwork and makes sense to me that it would be harder to weld the armor you are currently wearing than armor in front of you on a teammate.

My vote is that self welding would be 50% as fast and could only get you up to 50% of your total ap because half of your body isn't visible for you to weld. So, you can weld yourself, but it takes a teammate to do it right.

Also, if there really are welding bots, they can help you out :)

Welding yourself? I've never heard of such things!

I like that players have to weld each other. It brings up more of the team work aspect.

I see one person that's never played on the "cool" servers lol

Anyway ya it sucks to have to ask your team to stop shooting ###### to come over and weld you... i'd rather we get armor that has that nanite self-repair feature. We don't even need welders... just auto heal ######!

I've played on servers that allow self-welding, it's nice, but I think something like that could be added through LUA and not in the actual release.

See...you're suggesting this, because you play too much on ######ble.
And on ######ble it's no suprise that you have to ask 50 times for welding.

    Self-weld encourages ramboism..

I'm with battlebug on this one. Sounds like a good compromise. But that would also depend on how the weldbots work.

Total selfwelding or auto welding is a horrible idea. It does encourage individualism. NS2 is supposed to be a team game.

Suggestion: If you have the Welder out, you get a small HoT (heal over time).
Nothing like the real deal, but given the fact you're left alone and relatively safe you can heal up properly.

so, one ap per ten seconds out of 120 ap kills the game (takes twenty minutes to completely restore)? right. I want to see you survive with that.

Quiet you! There were many servers that i played on in NS1 which featured self welding, and it was GOOD. What you consider "teamplay" is trying to glorify the most trivial aspect of the game... the only thing worse is welding rts!

Can a doctor operate on himself?

Can a doctor perform surgery on himself?

Can a person see his own back without a mirror?

Can a person scratch his own back without a use of a tool?

Self welding is a horrible idea. You usually see self welding only on bot servers for the newer players. I agree that the idea of self welding encourages rambos but this is an FPS/RTS game. Not a full on FPS arcade shooter like Call of Duty.

Don't listen to FocusedWolf, hes a baddie who thinks hes good because he dominates the bot servers that no one plays.

FocusedWolf, go play on more bot servers.

    1 Yes

    2 Yes

1 & 2: through the use of of a robot for example

3 Depends on the level of cybernetic implants

4 definitely yes. I can, at least.

    1. Yes, but i think it needs more time
    2. Same.
    3. Of course, you not? But it's easier with a 2nd mirror ;)
    4. No problem for me too.

For small servers with less players I hope for an option

You can justify it all you want in terms of what doctors can or cannot do to each other, it is all irrelevant. In NS, the need to work as a team to use a welder is one of the basic levels of team cooperation in the game. No matter how you justify the decision, to remove the need to weld each other, would be a very bad idea. I wouldn't object to the idea of an armoury like unit to weld players, but out in the field, marines should be stronger in groups, and not just because of moar bullets.

If you can order a weldbot with a "weld me" impulse (and it doesn't have anything else do to), it will already help to make up for those new players that don't know how to weld and that make this whole thing so frustrating in the first place.

There was a dentist on the History Channel who performed a self-root canal or cavity filling. Google isn't helping me find this person. She can't perform dental surgery, but she can do some dental work on herself.

Similarly, look back at my first suggestion where I suggested that self-welding only restores some ap and at a slower speed as a compromise. It's a middle of the road suggestion. Best of both worlds.

I liked the idea of needing a group to be able to stay welded and recover fully after a figth. It also gives newer players with a good attitude but not that much skill something they can do and feel useful about. I remember welding a lot when I was new and it nice that you can sort of have that medic role and people would be grateful for your weld. Adds enjoyment. Do this day I'm tend to be a very active welder since I don't shoot that well.

Plus I'm hoping the weldbot is responsive to the "weld me" command to counter that "nobody welds me" problem.

EDIT: The only way I see something like this working is if the player that to make a significant investment to buy himself a special welder that he can heal himself with. But even then I'm not so crazy about the idea. normal welders... no way.
