Skulk gestation + burst aoe

I'd like to see that skulks are able to gestate on walls and ceilings. If you're to stupid to find the right location to not frag yourself on burst you need to learn some more of the game.

also, the player bursting out of his egg after any gestation (lerk>gorge, chambers, ....) give a disorientation effect (blurry, missaligned vision) to / below the egg. the liquids shoot around after all and are probably anything but healthy to a human.

both ideas combined allow quite intriguing strategies.

    no to flashbangs
yes to wall gests if wall building is allowed

not flashbang as in gestate somewhere and the room is blinded, more like if they are touched by the liquids they are disoriented and maybe hear bad for a second or two.
To me it would make sense if a skulk cloak-gestates to a lerk or something else on a ceiling and just when he bursts out some unhappy dude is walking below.

    What a delightful idea.. NOT

I like the idea of the wall gestation and the visuals from the egg popping. I think the goo affecting the marines would need to be play-tested but might be cool.

*Cue rage from Mak about eggs being overpowered*

i really like both ideas. I think the flashbang idea could really help eggs out of a pinch. i mean...you gestate for a good amount of time..if a marine sees you, you are going to be taking a lot of damage quickly...why not give the hatchling a chance? It doesn't have to be long...just give the little guy a chance to run and hide, or get into attacking position. Not only that, but it would make marines have to think twice about unloading rounds into an egg. "should i keep shooting? or should i turn around and not get blinded???"

Thumbs up! Great ideas. Always hated how you couldn't gestate on the ceilings in NS1. And in my opinion, the more slime the aliens are shooting around, the better. It's just plain sexy.

You didn't edit your actual post though?
Goo-splattering hatching seems logical, would definitely like to see it in some form, not necessarily game-affecting.
Wall gestation... doesn't make a lot of sense (the eggs don't have clawy legs to hang onto the wall with), but doesn't exactly seem overpowered.

usualy there is creep around the egg when an alien gestates (simply as they're close to the hive often), and looking at the current model they secrete their own creep.
also most insects do not let their spawn lie about, its often glued to the underside of a leaf or other stuff.

once had over a dozen weird eggs sticking to the border of my roof window in the bathroom this summer just gone.

Yes, but insect eggs are small and lightweight. Infestation would have to be clingy enough to slow marines to a crawl on its own to be able to hold the weight of eggs, nevermind if you gestate into a larger lifeform.

not necessary. theres that handy vacuum effect, that even some lizards use to climb up more or less flat surfaces.

Im imagining something like Gremlins 2..where they are hanging from the ceiling in the basement.

I like the idea of the burst obscuring a marines vision.

This has been done in Left 4 Dead 2 once attacked by a mud-man you get the following temporary effect.

    http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/left4dea...dmen_screen.jpg

You get goop on your HUD that partially obscures vision and lasts about 2 to 3 seconds as it starts to fade out. it should never ever completely blind someone. It does add a lot to the horror/thriller effect of this game.

The HUD effect does not weight heavy on players computer since their probably fading sprites. The hard part is getting goop to look good.

It makes it scarier, funnier since your fellow marines will point and laugh at the guy/girl with egg on his/her face.

I rather thought of the boomerpuke effect while writing this.

    That would be even better.

I'm going to cloak gestate on the marine start ceiling to an onos and drop down footstomp on the commander chair !! RAWR !

EDIT: And why people keep giving Left 4 Dead ideas.. stop ! the game is freaking garbage !

Magazine critical responses aren't viable for any major publishes. For example PCG at least used to give 90+ points for any magazine cover game, no matter if the game itself was absolute garbage.

Then scroll down to sales. I mean, have you played the game? It's ridiculously fun. I think half the fun is just watching the zombies react to physics after you shoot them.

I might have missunderstood the whole idea of the "glowies" and what they do, but couldn't they just be gestating themselves into cocoons on the walls/ceilings/floor around the hive so the only time you get to gestate back to the game would be when you can wallclimb (since you spawn in as a Skulk) and thus not actually fall down.

And maybe only allow Skulk to gestate when getting tech-upgrades on any surface, but when going to a another lifeform you need to be on a flat surface (to avoid an Onos to fall down from the ceiling).

I call that stupidity or inexperience if you gestate on the roof of i.e. refinery and fall to your death, wasting 75 res.
Or "lulz", when I'm on the marine side.

I like your arguments, their so... refreshing...

Left 4 Dead might not be up your alley but elements from any game may be a nice addition to what NS2 can become.
