Texture/Prop preview on Win7 64bit

The preview doesn't load...
Hi,

I'm new to the Spark Editor, so maybe this problem is already solved.
If I start the Spark Editor on my Notebook (Windows7 32bit) I can see a preview of the textures and the props.
But if I start the Spark Editor on my Gaming-PC (Windows7 64bit), the previews won’t come up:

[attachment=35911:no_preview.jpg]

Is this a Bug in the Editor or have I to change any settings?

Thx 4 Help

It works fine on my machine, running windows 7 - 64 bit, so I don't think it's an issue with the operating system.

Hm, okay, here is my system:

QuadCore Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450, 2666 MHz (8 x 333)

Intel Bonetrail 2 DX48BT2

8GB RAM (OCZ Reaper HPC OCZ3RPR13332G)

NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX/9800 GTX+

Creative SB X-Fi Fatality XtremeGamer Sound Card PCI

Windows 7 64bit

Any known issues with one component?

Deleting the OS from a computer fixes nothing.
Windows7 64bit is a nice OS, it runs fine.
Is there any debug-modus so I can post additional information?

Are you logged in as administrator?
The thumbs are generated and stored somewhere, I dont know where, They seem to cache on my machine so only new models generate a thumb.
So I am wondering if permission wise it cant write to a dir?

    Ah, that did the trick!
Looks like Spark Editor has some problems with umlauts in usernames.
The previews are saved to: C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Natural Selection 2\Editor\cache

My Windows username is "Björn". The Spark Editor is messing up the umlaut "ö" --> "ö".
Now it tries to save the previews in: C:\Users\Björn\AppData\Roaming\Natural Selection 2\Editor\cache instead of C:\Users\Björn\AppData\Roaming\Natural Selection 2\Editor\cache
A normal user is not allowed to create any folders in C:\Users ... and the folder "Björn" does not exist.
With Admin-Rights this folder is generated (because Admin is allowed to create folders in C:\Users):

    [attachment=35912:folder.jpg]

Is there any hope to get this bug fixed in Spark Editor?
It would also be nice if Spark Editor use the "Local"/"LocalLow" folder instead of the "Roaming" folder.

Obvious Troll is obvious, you can go away now.

Anyway, if the issuse with your umlaut, then I'm sure it could be easily fixed in a future build.

uh a Troll? wtf is that?

anyways I had windows 7 x64 and had million issues and some in Spark editor obviously so I think my point makes sense.

I just gave him the best way to fix that, and certainly other things.

Your point is null in the situation, sense the issue is with his username containing a character that Spark can't handle right now. So his issue would be present in any version of Windows.

And I hate to burst your bubble, but tons of us use Spark with Windows 7 with no issues, so I don't think your earlier issues were due to the OS itself.

And your HDD failed didn't it? I'd check out that hardware of yours first before blaming the software (even though I don't particularly like Win7 x64, I run it and Spark runs just fine).

Perhaps we could receive a feature where we could cache permanently to the installation directory?

A little refresh button on the model images?

Ya it was 1 of 2 storage disk only. No link to that problem since I went from millions bugs to none going from win7 ultimate x64 to win xp pro sp3 x86 so my suggestion is valid anyways. Call me a hater or a troll (or an alien terrorist blind dwarf ?!) but that was my suggestion. Even with updates win7 sucks, will be "decent" when it gets to service pack 2 whatsoever.

Sorry to go off-topic like that but from what I and other people knows if you really have no problems with win7 64 bit you really do nothing with your computer that is a fact. I never had blue screens in years until 7.

So anyways, my point is still the best overall, unless you can't afford setting aside directx10 and have 8gb ram or more, you'll also get 2 third of your ressources back in a fresh boot, or at least half of it depending on your system configuration. Plus you are clearly stating that it works on win7 32 bit and not on the 64 bit.

I don't think you've bothered reading anything else in this thread, have you? Or maybe English is not your primary language... But again, the OP's issue is not with his OS, but the way his username is spelled.
Your suggestion is not valid and only applicable to your one condition.

You're talking crap, since release (not beta rc) I've had no issues whatsoever with win7 64bit. I use me pc for gaming, photoshop, uni work, spark, etc and have never had a single problem.

Either your experience was of a beta rc or your hardware is causing an issue with it.

You know, the only people I found that truly hated (or still hate) Vista were the early adopters and the ones with not-so-great computers. Well, Windows 7 is even less resource intensive than Vista and I am also running Win7 64-bit for gaming, photoshop, visual studio, spark.. I very rarely run into an issue where the OS is at fault. Whatever, I really think we're being trolled but he's too dumb to know what a troll is to realize he's doing it.

He isn't trolling, though he doesn't do much else than whine about Win 7 and trying to force his opinion onto others.

Personally I like Win 7, and haven't had a problem with it so far. I do spark, gaming and programming without a problem.

I've never liked the move from storing everything in the installation directory to storing it under your profile. Thats the only thing that has irked me about Windows from the start is the built in folders like "My Documents" and your AppSettings folders. The first thing I do on the installation of any new OS is to make simple folders off the root to store things in. It would be awesome if there was an option for Spark + NS2 to store all settings in the installation directory.

    Agreed, it's annoying.
Especially if the OS is sitting on it's own partition.
