<div class="IPBDescription">what NOT to do in your 1st few games</div> there are few things that you should avoid doing, things which would expose you as a clueless n00b and may even cost your teammates a victory

as a marine:

-DO NOT BECOME A COMMANDER UNLESS YOUR TEAM OK's IT - WARN THEM ITS YOUR FIRST TIME.
practice with bots first. bad commander means no fun for marines and being voted out of command chair is not fun for you.

-don't even ask for weapons in the first ten minutes of the game. this includes weld gun and mines.

-if you picked up weapon/ equipment dropped for someone else, DROP IT ASAP and apologise.

-don't attack enemy structures, especially hives without OK from the commander. this is very important, you can screw up the well planned assault and the whole game EASILY by runing off and shooting a hive/res tower/whatever with your LMG.

-don't ask commander for ANY weapons/ armor/JP at ANY time if there's less then 20 res available to your team (you can see the number on top of your screen). if you REALLY need health/ammo/weapon don't spam the chat, use radio command ONCE, and type your request and location ONCE in text chat. location is displayed at the bottom of your screen (i.e "Horseshoe")
if commander does not give you what you need it, it's not because he does not like you, he simply has better use for his resources/attention. get used to it or go play Quake.
the only time when you should try to get commander's attention is when you are at the empty hive location, alone. even then, make sure he knows about it and do not demand turrets/health/ammo/etc. every 10 seconds.

-don't run off alone the moment the game begins unless the commander gives you a waypoint.

-don't leave your base alone at any time unless it is through the phase gate- this includes secondary bases in hives, around res, nozzles etc (unless you are given an order to do it)

-if you are gien a waypoint/order do not stay at the base begging for weapons/armor even if commander has plenty of resources. there is nothing more depressing for the commander then spend 5 minutes frantically dropping health/ammo on marines assaulting the hive, expecting reinfocement to arrive any second, only to find "reinforcements" hopping around the base like CS bunnies they are, going "comm drop jp and nade launcher main base"


alien:

-do not even think of playing alien until you have an idea of what "hive sight" is and how to use it to navigate the map/ respond to the strategic situation. remember:
"lifeform under attack" = go and HELP your team
"structure under attack", 1-2 red circles - investigate, not very important
"structure under attack", a lot of red circles close together - siege turret - find and kill its turret factory ASAP.
"resource chamber under attack" - free lunch: bunch of marines with their knives out.
"hive under attack" = go and SAVE your team

-DO NOT BECOME A GORGE IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND ALIEN RESOURCE DISTRIBUTION AND UPGRADE SYSTEM
you can really screw your team. really. really bad.

-if you think you can be an effective gorge, ask your team if they need more gorges first. if they do need gorges, ask what the existing gorges are busy with. ever seen two gorges trying to build one resource chamber? i had and it made me very happy (as a marine)

-do not become lerk until your team gets the second hive. you will cost your gorges vital RP's and it takes skill to be effective as a low level lerk.

-do not attack turrets as a skulk. only turret factories.

-if you are playing as a gorge, and second hive goes up, do not go fade unless you HAVE to do it (i.e. to protect a hive from imminent destructon). your team still counts on you being a gorge, don't screw them. same thing with 3rd hive.


and please rememeber, everyone else is there to have fun, don't spoil it.

    well somewhat correct I would highly suggest Not Dropping the weapon but Giving it to the person with HA and an lmg etc.. When you drop a weapon it is the same as if you die and drop a weapon, meaning it has a lifespan of roughly 20 -30 seconds before it dissappears. As a commander nothing is more frustrating then dropping weapons and have Peeps grab them and decide "oh I want a GL not a shottie" then drop it and leave it to rot. Please give your weapons to the person they were intended for, do not drop them...

    Not saying your wrong but how exactly does it cost your gorges rps for you to evolve into something?

    if you are at max. resources, i.e. 33/33 all additional resources go to players who are not at the max, usually gorges. as soon as you go lerk and become 0/33, you are drawing resources form the shared pool again, reducing the amount that gorges get. at that point in game they are trying to get 2nd hive up and defended, it costs a lot and you should make sure you help them resource-wise as much as you can.

    getting an upgrade is ok , it's only 2 res and you go back to max almost immediatly, but lerking can be costly and it may mean the diference between winning the game and having second hive killed when it is still building.

    yeah sure. but if you picked a weapon meant for someone else, the chances are, he is right next to you so "item lifespan" is not a problem.

    Right. operative word here is ASK. a good commander, (especially in maps like caged and bast) will hand out a weld gun almost immediately. DO NOT pick it up. Wait for someone experienced to pick it up (he knows which vents to go for) and keep HIM alive by watching his back.

    Should he die, and you somehow survive, grab the welder, and finish the job to make the 10 rp worth it. After that RUN LIKE HELL back to base if you are alone.

    Remember also veterans, noobs will stay noobs if you never let them comm/gorge. But before they do so, they should have at least 2 hours play experience on that particlular side [B]minimum[\B], and they should have read the manual.

    Remember, as a gorge on the alien team, ALWAYS build defence chambers before any other type of upgrade. Once you build an upgrade chamber, you are LOCKED IN to that type of upgrade, and cannot choose another type of upgrade until you get the next hive. Defence chambers make a HUGE difference, esp early in the game. Usually movement is a good choice for your second hive. This means when you build that sensory chamber at the start so you can have cloak, defence chambers (which heal you) will be unavailable until the next hive is captured, which can be AGES. Since effective alien defences REQUIRE defence chambers, this is a good way to shoot your team in the foot.

    Also remember, even though as aliens you might think that because you have your own resources, you don't effect your other teammates if you spend them. THIS IS WRONG! If you have full resources, then all the resources you might have recieved get alloted to your teammates, which are likely to have a better use for them than you. Last of all, don't leave the game when the marines start winning. A coordinated alien attack on an unattended marine base is very likely to succeed. Kill the enemy turret factory first if it is vulnerable, and then any nearby phase gates / inf. portals.

    And remember, if the marine team looses their command console, they are completely rooted. So marines, defend it well, and if you can make a sneaky attack on it, do so.

    Comms can tell when bases are under attack even if you cannot. If you attack a structure as an alien, the comm will know and likely order marines there. If you are a marine and attack an alien or alien structure, ALL the aliens will know instantly, and you will find yourself very quickly with skulks everywhere around you, especially if you are close to a hive.
