Why Is This HAPPENING?

It's really pissing me off lol... I know it's a pre-alpha, but I'm wondering whether I'm doing something incorrectly or WHAT?!

I make the rectangle on the floor, and yet, I can't seem to select that "face." When I click within those 4 edges shown in the screenshot, it simply selects the entire floor. I want to extrude that rectangle up a bit but I can't if this thing doesn't co-operate!

I'm not sure if I'm doing something differently than other times because sometimes extruding a piece of an existing face works fine, and sometimes it doesn't. Please, someone help me before I go insane! :)

Thanks. :)

EDIT: Nevermind. I figured out that I MUST start the shape ON the floor face and not on the edge/corner. :/

I've had this issue a fair bit as well. Try using the line tool instead, and avoid drawing lines along the bottom of the walls (where there's already an edge).

I might be crazy but I found it helps a little to select the face you want to make a rectangle on first, and when starting it, make sure the mouse is definitely ontop of the selected surface but close enough to the corner that the little helper dot shows where you want it to start. Hard to explain.

I completely understand what you mean by that, so you explained it perfectly :P

    I'll give that a try I guess.

As for drawing lines, it can become extremely annoying drawing lines I've learned :)...

    Thanks for the tips!

You need to delete the surface for your floor/wall first always when adding extra geometry to its surface, i found if you dont then you can get Ghost Points and Lines along sides where you draw a shape along the INSIDE edge of another, Can cause crashes in some cases when you draw a box (maybe for a wall) where a hidden line is and i THINK the editor gets cofused thinking that spare line might be for your new shape...

[b]So for a clean square room with a platform in a corner[b/] (and a nice all in one L shape for the floor)
    1) Draw your big square and delete the surface that is auto created.
    2) Then draw in the 2 extra lines you need for your platform in the corner, Surface will be created for you, Keep it.
    3) Now you have a small sqaure surface with a wireframe L shape so now you can double click a line on the L, it should auto select all the sides for the L shape only, then you can go ahead and generate the suface.
    4) Extrude your little sqaure for your platform.

This way you have a nice clean creation with no dodgy chopping.
Otherwise if you delete your stuff you might find some lines and points that dont do anything hideing behind other lines (Sometimes).
