The bots have a few hard counters to major screwups they'd otherwise be capable of. They can't inflict friendly fire, and they can't set off a witch with gunfire either. I saw a witch get absolutely PEPPERED with bot crossfire and it didn't set her off.

i've seen bots set off the witch many times, in fact almost every time i play single player and find a witch. and not just by being near her.

They do stuff that has nothing to do with any of the new added things. For instance, they seem incapable of moving and firing at the same time, which means if they're surrounded by a crowd (such as on that god damn roller coaster), they'll just stand there shooting, rather than trying to push through it and shoot on the run. And they refuse to shoot a special infected that has you pinned from a distance, they have to run up to within shoving range and then shoot it, which is a really odd thing to do since the bots are literally incapable of inflicting friendly fire damage (even if they hit you it doesn't hurt).

They're just worse. It's not the new stuff in the game tripping up the old AI, they're just not as good as the originals.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Hm, the whole grappling mechanic for the zombies also get in the way. The whole "oh dear you're in melee, you can barely move" sucks. However, the bots seem perfectly happy to slowly do insignificant damage with their shoves instead of splatter the mess with a gun. Or, you know, use melee weapons properly.

Speaking of which, I've found melee weapons to be pretty awesome. Yay lack of reload and ability to splatter like 5 zeds that are crowding you. Unfortunately it makes killing longer ranged zombies much harder. Although watching the Hunter miss, and turning around and smacking him is surprisingly satisfying. Somehow the bots seem more prone to getting Hunter pounced.

I propose that Keith is Chicago Ted.

I also propose that Ellis is insane.

" Yay lack of reload and ability to splatter like 5 zeds that are crowding you. "

    Hehe, zeds. Killing Floor much?

I don't see any point of melee except the lack of reload, you can still only get one guy at a time (except chainsaw) and for some reason they now have made the special infected FASTER than the survivors. So a melee survivor chasing a spitter won't get her, assuming he's out of ammo. The slight reload of a pistol with infinite ammo is much better, especially as you can reload while shoving.

ALL melee weapons can kill multiple enemies at a time, not just the chainsaw. Melee weapons are, just like pistols, a backup weapon - situational, not often your first choice, but a lot better than nothing. They're particularly useful if you have a lot of infected coming at you from one direction. Start swingin' and watch the body parts fly.

I tried and didn't buy KF. Partially because I don't have enough time to be pro at the games I already own.

As lolfighter said, it's situational. That being said, you want at least one person on your team with it, if anything to mob the hoarde while you guys sit back and spray lead.

Also, it's extraordinarily satisfying to rambo into the hoarde on Normal and slaughter them all in close combat. Just yank out the guns for the special infected.

Oh, and I managed to sidestep a Charger and beatstick it down with an axe. It felt awesome.

I can't bring myself to buy this game after the Australian nerfs
  • lolfighterlolfighter Snark, Dire Join Date: 2003-04-20 Member: 15693Members
Yeah, australian gamers got shafted with this one. I can understand not wanting to put this game in the hands of fifteen year olds (although frankly I think that the average fifteen year old has seen worse than this admittedly very gory game), but it's ridiculous that Australia doesn't have a higher rating than that.

If an Australian joins a game with 3 / 7 non-australians, it changes the game for the other 3 / 7 people too (it removes the riot cop zombies and some body piles, I think, not sure what else it does). Which leads to australians getting vote kicked from any server they try to join.

    Poor Australia :(

from what i understand, the only thing it changes is the riot cops spawning. which only happens on one campaign. and how can you tell if someone is from australia? riot cops don't spawn ridiculous amounts, so i probably wouldn't even notice for a while, and once i did, i wouldn't care.

I'm just going from what I've heard other people say (I haven't played it online much.)

It removes the riot cops (although I've heard some people say it doesn't), I think it removes some of the pre-placed body piles, and it *might* make the zombies you've killed disappear quicker. I dunno.

I've definitely seen some australian players complain about being votekicked when the other players found out they had the censored version.

    edited November 2009
the zombie piles and bodies are all clientside, there's no reason for them to disappear at all since having them on my machine or not won't affect the server, much less the australian client. the only serverside variable is the riotcops. i seriously doubt valve would go through the extra effort to make everyone hate australians when the only necessary solution is the prevention of riotcop spawning.

edit: i could possibly see there being an issue where if i hosted a game and an australian joined then my gore-level gets turned down, but i doubt that's the case. and it would only affect the serverhost.

The player-AI is certainly stupider, it absolutely had to have been intentionally dumbed down, though I can't see why. Though, I have some friend who were WORSE than the AI back in L4D1. The old AI were excellent special infected crackshots. Though I can't believe nobody has mentioned the charger bug that gets you stuck in walls.

I've seen it happen at least once per campaign, and it's really annoying. As far as I can tell, nothing can save you except a push from an exploding boomer or a smoker grab, but they attack the stuck target so infrequently we've just resorted to chainsawing the poor b****** for yuks and then moving on.

Also, the game does not seem as balanced on expert as it did before, it seems markedly harder and in particular, melee weapons are a deathwish.

As we've figured out in versus, jockeys are excellent at freeing stuck survivors. And they REALLY need to get that bug fixed. I've seen it happen two, three times in a versus game. It's not a rare bug, how did that EVER get through beta?
