What To Do With Babblers?

JamlJaml Join Date: 2002-11-17 Member: 9054Members
<div class="IPBDescription">have they a use?</div> Gorges have usefull abilitys at 1 and 2 hives but what about babblers? I mean its a 3 hive upgrade and they almost die instantly since by the time you get them marines waste regular skulks wih ease not to mention the reduced version of the babblers(20 bite, 40 xenocide reduced health, no upgrades). So im asking if someone has found a use for them already.

Gorges are SO useful, it doesn't bother me that babblers are only for fun really, heh. The best use I find it to have a gorge in a vent with one or two skulks. The gorge starts spitting out babblers, and the skulks run down in the fray. In the confusion, the marines don't know which ones to shoot first <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

But the ability to build things, and webbing... tooooo powerful <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Two things:
--distract turrets and marines for about 1/10 of a second (you'll need Adrenaline for this, probably)
    --set off tripmines.

And filling a room with Skulks is lots of fun... just keep popping them outside a marine base with Adrenaline, then open the door. They all rush in, most die, but some can Xenocide some real damage to a structure. It's also humiliating to be babble-killed. ^_^

They are really there for distracting sentry turrets. Turrets always target the nearest enemy, so if you've got babblers suiciding into the turrets, then the turrets arent killing the fades, which are doing the real damage.

Distracting turrets? They die instantly oh well i gave my fades 36ms of saefty. At least give the babblers full skulk power and carpace lvl 3. They are a 3. hive upgrade!!! Or replace them with something usefull like a healing cloud(like spores just for healing) or something. I like the babblers very much but they are garbage.

Yes I find babblers are mainly used as distraction if used at all (Nothing can scare a marine more than having a room full of skulks, even if hes in heavy armour) also helps with rushes on their bases. Send out a wave of babblers from one side, to distract the marines, then send in your fades and lerks in the back,

gorge isnt supposed to be an offensive alien. i think the are fine for the reasons mentioned above.

I expect you're just throwing out one at the time. Then they wont be useful. And if you ARE throwing out multiple, get adrenaline... its the best move perk for the higher forms anyway, so you're likely to have use for it.

I dont want the gorge to be an offensve alien. Just give him something usefull with the 3. hive.

<b>There's another VERY important point about babblers!</b>
Any marine emptying entire HMG clips on a neverending trail
of babblers will possibly run out of precious ammo... and that's
when a real skulk might be among them...

    <b>Ok, ok... I already hear you saying:</b>
<i>"What about the commander? If he spams his soldier with ammo,
he won't run out of it for quite some time"</i>

Yeh, that's actually true. BUT those lil ammo packages cost resources...
    ...your babblers don't.

<i>"Aha, and what's with those armories? If the marine is close to an
armory he'll just go and quickly 'refuel' his gun."</i>

Lol... unless there are turrets nearby, that would be the coolest thing he
could do, cause then he'd even turn his back to his enemy. Even the babblers
    can kill him in such a vulnerable position. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

You use Babblers in conjuntion with webbing, setting up ambushes.
Once that HA HMG Marine gets trapped in a web, your babblers will make short work of him.

Plus they're great if you get caught off guard and need to make a get away: backtrack - web, babbler, web, babbler, web...until your safe.

Spitting out a bunch of babblers into a marine base and then having an onos hit primal scream produces amazing results.

blabbers are more like an intimidating weapon.. u get one or two fades... and spam blabbers wif 2 gorges... they aliens will be scared sh!tless.. and may even all teleport back to MAIN base.. leaving their expans empty. throw in a few skulks.. and the marines will be totally confused <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

There's a vent overlooking the holoroom in NS_Hera. As a 3-hive level Gorge, I'd put webbing on the ground below, and as I noticed marines getting stuck, I'd bombard them with babblers. There were turrets down in that room, but not enough to save that marine. I did that multiple times to keep the marines off the fade's back as they destroyed the last remnants of their base. I feel that I won that war. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

I like babblers, mostly I like to use them as a scout, or I go cloak and launch them at the backs of marines that passed me by to try and take out my wall of offense and defense towers. They're busy taking out my towers and what the hell?! 4 skulks just popped out of nowhere behind them! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Like its been said before, with webs its even better.

    Babblers are ment to:

#1 Confuse marines. Throw in a few real skulks in there and let the fun begin. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

#2 Attack webbed marines. Since they can't fire back, and you can fire off about 4 mini-skulks at them doing 20 dmg per bite then 40 when they die, the marine is pretty much dead.

#3 Confuse turrets. Throw a few babblers in there while up setup some O chambers. Or they will give your teammates some seconds to get some havok done.

#4 Attack buildings. This is their main purpose. To attack defenceless buildings.

I'd say that the best use for babblers is a distraction.

If you have 3 hives, there's a very good chance your enemy has some strong stuff too, and as a gorge, that means you're dead faster than ever. Babblers make the perfect distraction for when you're running from that HA/HMG marine. They 'blink' around like a laggy player, making the marine shift his aim to attack them (Unless you're far enough away he can fire on you both, in which case prayer is a better option available to you <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->), or if he doesn't (Once happened to me), he gets nibbled to death. As a gorge I've only gotten a couple kills with babblers, but they're still a lot of fun and useful for making escapes and getaways <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

I've also managed to get my babblers 'stuck' in a turret factory. They couldn't do bite damage, but they also weren't getting gunned down by the turrets around them. Eventually they took out the factory from Xenocide alone (And made me beleive for a while, that babblers don't get shot at by turrets), and the rest of the base was nothing for our fades to roll over...

I'd say they're the perfect level 3 ability for gorges. Useful, but not overpowered, fun but nothing that belongs in a 'primary' combat role. Keep 'em as they are <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

has anyone noticed babblers running very, very slowly? as in, they're "running," but barely moving at all.

I also spammed a resource tower with babblers today and none of them bit the tower... I had to spit it to death myself. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

By the time you can spit a resource tower to death, a fade could <i>walk</i> there and back! Where was your team?
