Just chiming in, if you check my join date. I was into NS for a long time. ;)

Them saying that was over 7 years ago makes me feel old, but it's great to have a new game on the horizon, and one that isn't limited by their engine.

Babblers was hilariously funny, but buggy. I could rarely kill a marine with them. I started NS in November 2002, I remember seeing an article in PC Gamer back then, I remember not liking the game at first, but it grew on me.

I remember the day of the first version's release. I wasn't really fluent in english and I didn't understand many parts of the gameplay but it was amazing to run through SF corridors shooting aliens in MP with my squad...

In fact, I think I had many of my best gaming moments on Natural Selection. Can't wait for NS2, the first ingame screens are impressive.

Man, can it really be 7 years since I was sitting around Halloween night desperately trying to figure out how the hell to move around as a skulk and actually hit a damn lurk in the air. Ah, I do miss the spawn points covered in turrets. Ah, those were fun nights. Everyone joining at once, trying to figure out how to play. Every Rambo running into a hive getting just mauled because they demanded a shotgun right out of the gate. LOL. Ah man, boy that was fun times. Can't wait for NS2.

I think the biggest loss from 1.04 was the single gorge model. I didn't like the restrictions on everybody else spending their res, but being the gorge was fun because he had plenty of res to be constantly building stuff, and everybody else could focus on fighting without ever having to temp-gorge. After 2.0 dedicated gorges spent a lot of time waiting for res and skulks were always having to leave the action when they could afford an RT or a hive. Hopefully the alien commander will bring back the original feel.

not even, they helped gorges live cause you could spit out a horde of mini skulks at marines while healing yourself with full heal

you could also drop a chamber and build it while taking HMG fire and it would live >:D

Except that gorges couldn't heal themselves :O

From what I remember anyway, healing was abusively horrible anyway (as it was a base value and not percentage based), but DC's could be stacked and healed each other. 8 DC mutual-healing = ownage.

I remember in my first games I ended up getting vaporized in the eternal siege corridors. The sieges simply couldn't cut through the DC stacks.

I'll be really disappointed if the Wall o' Lame doesn't make some sort of appearance in NS2.

I've been playing so long that at one point, I was actually considered a good commander.

This was back in the mid-70's.

Was playing since first night. I even remember the airplane marines (even though I could not take part in them). Also lots of beta for 2.x and 3.x.

Best was the lerks flight. To bad giant weights were added to their balls. Lerks were overpowered if used right.

    PS: <3 bluephish

I used to play every day until WoW's release... then that has sucked up my life. WoW wasn't the whole story though. The main people I played with quit and shut down their server and I have trouble just randomly joining a server and playing. I like being in a small group of regulars to a specific server with random people popping in here and there.

Lately, WoW has gotten boring, life has gotten extremely busy (job hunting ftl), Dragon Age is a HUGE game, and NS2 is around the corner. I'd like to play NS again, but I just feel so out of place with all of the custom stuff flying around. I've never been a fan of custom maps, modes, etc. Pretty much the only thing I liked that modded NS was the ability to go above level 10(?) in Combat. Although, being able to carry a gorge around as a lerk was always great.

Now the thread is about old clans you used to be in. My very first clan was hS`( hybrid soldiers ), then cX and then zF ... I do not remember the full names of the last two so sue me. All I remember is when I was in cX ... we were on vent getting ready for a match and I decided to suggest a jetpack rush strategy where you use the starting resources to tech for jetpack right away nothing else. You basically got jet pack in under 4 minutes from start of the game. We then proceeded to get chomped out of the air by skulks because at that time ... in general .. peoples aim as marines wasn't all that great .. so yea oh the humanity etc etc and banned from vent etc etc

Reporting in. Nostalgan about no reload animations and the frumpy looking grenade launcher that used to be an HMG and then was soon lost in the shuffle.

Also remember playing the Specialists on a server that promptly emptied when 2.0 came out. ;)

    edit: Also old hera

I remember one poor ###### who was cursed with skill at being comm.

We wouldn't let the guy do anything else but comm round after round. He'd want to foot soldier it, but damned if we would let him.

I also remember summoning the fortitude to try comm myself. Holy hell, was I ever terrified.

Heh....I also remember the "No avatar selected" avatars the forums had. I've looked for it, but no luck. What I would give to get that back...
