And why not? Obviously you're not a fan of Steam. There is a need because a lot more people would buy it.

Don't like steam because it's a DRM platform in disguise, Valve has more control over your software than you do on it, and it's quickly becoming a dangerous monopoly.
Alright I can tell all you guys came here today cause of the media release, which is okay! It's great to see some of you new folks and people returning to preorder.
All of your questions have been answered previously and here's the lowdown:
The game will not be available for preorder on Steam for quite some time, probably closer to the release of the game. Right now, you have to use Unknown World's proprietary pre-purchase system.
The key that you get for that will be for the standalone copy of the game. NS2 is designed to fit into Steam so you'll still be able to load it up through Steam and make use of Steam's integration, but the team is not certain if these preorder keys will be accepted by Steam as official copies of the game (in other words, you'd be able to put in your CD Key into Steam and then if you ever needed to redownload the game you could do it through Steam, otherwise it will be required for you to download it from some other source [probably right here] and then add it to Steam manually.)
TL;DR Version:
Purchase through Steam is not possible, for now. However, it will be the main distributor of NS2's official release.
well they need to get focus then and get the game done to a point which people can play then add on stuff later when ideas come to them that why updates are for which is normal for all steam games and or online play its not like they think there going to get the game done all at once

And this is whats wrong with todays gaming industry... Theres so many people who say this, so devs think they can spew out all these junk of games at outrageous prices and announce these crappy DLC's before the game is even released... *Rolls eyes*
Thank god nothing of the sort has turned up about NS2 yet, and the devs actually care about there product and consumers who are planning on paying for a decent AAA title game.

It may sound convenient for us fans but they can't afford to hand out a bad product with glitches or incomplete content. Products like 'Age of Conan' and 'Hellgate: London' clearly presents the horrible outcome releasing before it's done can do. Not to mention releasing it as early-early alpha will make people review it (it's the internet after all), and when others read up on the game or hear from friends about the current state of the alpha they may be discouraged to buy the game before it's even done. So for their own good, presenting only high-quality products will make their company appear more professional as well as not scaring away the buyers.
