Dirty Marine Tricks

How do you deal with it?
Earlier this evening, I played as an alien for 3 games straight; each one was more embarassing than the last. The commander on the marine team, apparently, was not using their resources to build turrets, but immediately got an observatory (and a spawn pod or 2) and started scanning our hives. As soon as they found where it was, they immediately sent 7 marines towards it and crushed us utterly. Let me put it this way:

x 7 > x 1 to 3

Since we had no waypoints or quick way to mobilize, we were soon torn down by 7 long-distance-death-weilding marines, each thirsting for alien ichor. The gorges hadn't even got enough res to finish building an offense tower when they arrived at our hive, and promptly tore it down. The gorge who survived the hive being blown up -- unlike most of us, due to the 1.03 no-hive-kills-marines -- had escaped and since all resources went to him, had BARELY enough to start a 2nd hive, but the marines split up to different locations and murdered him. Accusations of the marines cheating were there on the lips of my teammates, but I joined the marines on the fourth rematch, and saw them do it again, even faster than the last time.

It was absurd. The commander used that 97 starting resource in a different way, and it ended the game faster than a skulk rush possibly could. I suppose this is a karmic backlash for all the Command Chairs I've destroyed, but still, does anyone have a solution to this problem? I don't want to be defenseless when the marines catch onto this.

(Edit -- it's not faster than a skulk rush, sorry -- that was an exaggeration. The rest is quite accurate, however.)

Thats a **obscenity**, but completely ingeneous. Only way to fend it off is to get everyone to rush their backside as they come in and then rush their spawn when half are dead. They'll only spawn 1 at a time, and you can tear those inf portals apart.

yup, if they pull everyone off on a rush, you gotta do the same. after that, its just a matter of who kills off the other team first.

either that, or meet them halfway and kill their squad. it really is a tossup as to who will win...just make sure that you, too, travel in groups. marine squads own lone or paired skulks, but they get massacred by 4+

Hmm...but considering since the commander already has and observatory up then he could just pull in one of those destress beacons and start the rush all over again....so 7 marines die, and lets say you stop them with a 6 skulk casualty then if the commander fires up the destress beacon and gets those marines back to your hive within 30 seconds you will only have 3 of your skulks respawned.

That would be an unplesent use for destress beacons, good thing no one uses them on pulblic servers

It doesn't respawn them, just brings them home if they are out there. Its a good idea though.

Distress beacon does respawn all dead marines, and doesn't have an effect on marines in the field as far as I can tell.

Hey , headfeast i was playing in that game too ;p

That was a very interesting strategy the commander used and very effective. The trick to that strategy , is being very very aggressive right at the start and hitting the aliens where it hurts. right at hom in their hive.

Also, if the comm gets into any trouble he has the distress beacon just incase. I was very surprised that this strat worked in a pub.

What this hsows you aliens, is that you can't expect the marines to be building turrets anymore, they might actually leave their base and cause some trouble.

I found it funny some people were saying the marines were cheating, i guess you guys never saw a marine rush before ?

what was the exact scenario for this to happen to you guys? did you guys skulk rush? where you guys all separated? did you guys even come back to the hive?

if the alien team was actually good, this strat wouldn't work well at all. firstly, the gorge shuld have at least one OC up even before the marines leave their base with that observatory up. that OC will delay and might even kill a few marines and waste their ammo while the skulks swarm them from every possible direction. even if they kill off the skulks and OC, they are probably completely out of ammo! the next few respawning skulks will make sure they are out of ammo and delay knifers as more skulks respawn. and half the hives are out of reach of knifers anyway. and get one skulk to their undefended main base to do as much dmg as possible to delay them further and maybe confuse them a bit while the surviving marines at your hive get picked off. the gorge should have been smart enough to run away while the OC was getting attacked and maybe spit occassionally and when all marines are dead....start building like hell from those saved res.

remember that 7x vs 8 skulks, a OC, a sniping gorge and a hive can't win. they have 50/50 standard LMG ammo and 10/10 pistol rounds. the usual scenario for a single OC would be to unload on it and even though 7 marines will kill it easy...they all used at least 30 rounds on it. what about the skulks and other factors?

Bad, keep in mind this is a pub. On Eclipse, its commonly thought to be a bad idea to rush the marines. So, you end up with some people rushing, some people wandering about, aliens all over the map. Once its seen that the marines are rushing, well, its a clump of marines vs a few aliens at a time. Not to mention that some aliens just won't leave off what they are doing, and go defend a hive. Don't ask me, I just yell at them, fruitlessly, about it.

Its all but impossible to get the aliens to linger at the hive at the start, or to move to block the marine rush. I left the server where the marines rushed lke this _4_ times running, and went to a different server, where I joined a marine team that did a simplier form of this, 3 games running.

Marines are learning to rush, aliens still haven't figured out how to handle it. Learning curves.

Oh, as a side note, I also participated in a few sucessful Hera skulk rushes. Some maps favor skulk rushing, others favor marine rushing, it seems.

It is INCREDIBLY easy to rush the maint. hive on eclipse, especially if it comes as a surprise to the kharaa. Even when it is expected it takes a lot of work from the alien team to stop it.

if on a public server the marines manage to find 7 guys to cooperate while aliens are soloing then they deserve every single one of those wins. Early on 7 skulks vs 7 marines leaves 7 dead human bodys spread all over the place. But if you send one at a time against them you die cause 7lmg all pointed at you waste you pretty fast.
