double damage from behind

<div class="IPBDescription">skulks being more skulky</div>well I just thought that maybe it would make gameplay more interesting and not so straight forward for skulks by encouraging them to sneak around and attack from behind

- this means that they would need to work in packs and just generally screw with the marine players brains to try to get them to face the wrong way

what do you guys think? (or does the marine ability to hit the skulks with the lmg already encourage this well enough?)

There's already a huge advantage to attacking from behind and if you don't do it at every possible opportunity then you're doing it wrong.

Higher ping makes this a very frustrating feature ala TF2 facestabs.

this could actually be a neat feature for the normal marines seeing as they have no rear armour...

The benefits of attacking behind are already there by the marine not being able to shoot the skulk in the face immediately. Anything more will pigeon hole the skulk too much and upset the balance by undoubtedly reducing his overall effectiveness when attacking from the front or the side to counteract the power of the ass chomp.

Skulks can very easily outmaneuver a marine player. Ideally the marine player wouldn't even know what hit him, but more than likely the marine will be aware of your attack and try to shoot you down. If the marine can't inflict enough damage before the skulk comes in close contact, the marine is already screwed enough as it is without doubling damage from getting chomped at from behind.

Not to mention that this idea is only going to give a tremendous advantage to alien team at the start of the game. I see no effort to counter-balance this alien advantage that would restore balance.

It's not a bad idea in of itself, but when you get into the practicality of it all, you clearly see how much trouble it would ultimately cause.

I have to agree with some of the above posts on this one. Double damage is a big no. I think the only real additional effect I would like to see in an attack from behind would be a moderate screen shake effect, as if your character has lost there balance from being struck unexpectedly. This would shake your aim but I'm only talking a second or two. This disruption would run on a short cool down so you don't have an obnoxious repeated shake effect but I think would be nice minor bonus for aliens who do get in behind a marine, while still allowing the marine to fight back in a fair manner. Skilled players could even compensate for this effect but at that level of skill (assuming both players are equally skilled) making them miss even one or two bullets could mean the difference between victory and defeat.

I don't realy care if the hit detection and lag problematic is reduced, it will still lead to annoying scenes like mentioned above: valve still didnt manage to remove facestabs (now known as shoulderstabs) from tf2.

    I disapprove of this idea.

& because if you got attacked from the front... you have some arms and a gun to protect your body. But from the back you don't really have anything.

Seems way too OverPowered. If you manage to bite a marine from behind chances are you will be able to land the second chomp which would leave the marine either dead or a gorge's breath away from death in the early game (assuming they don't mess with the numbers too much in NS2).

Also location damage in melee attack can be a real pain in the butt (hehe) like with the backstab example in TF2. Imagine if spies in TF2 would be able to wall walk, be super fast, and small. How annoying would that be? The only reason backstab works is because only a few people in the team play spy and it comes with severe handicaps.

I know your suggestions is just 2x damage and not an instakill but the comparison holds true enough.
