Is It Me

<div class="IPBDescription">or . . .</div> Is it me or am i correct in thinking that after the new 1.03 patch the aliens always seem to win. It could be coincidence but after playing 5 different matches with different players the aliens won every time. The main factor was the Fade with bile-bomb that just spammed all our bases.

I liked the 1.02 patch a lot but so far i have been disappointed by the latest patch.

While I personally have experienced more alien victorys than Marine, and this has been while I have been playing on Pubs as a Marine. I have observed that most of the games we lost on could be attributed to poor commanding (Turret Factories in the middle of a large room, No Mines, Time spent Fortifying a single resource node, commander as dispenser of weapons, no waypoints, etc . . . ). Once marine commander adapt to the increased power of Bile Bombs and Grenade launchers (less turrets, more GLs), and once those commanders learn the value of a waypoint, expect more marine wins.
In every game I played that we had a good commander, we won. Thats what it all comes down to as a marine, and unfortunately, there just arent many good commanders out there.

There's still hope though, I recently found a server with that kind of good commander humbaba described... and of course we won several fair matches... alien team wasn't half bad either

    that's interesting Kbot.

I played on the Gridlock server just now and they are very skilled players, full of playtesters and EC members. And in the 2 matches I played there the aliens again won even though it seemed we had the upper hand.

The Marines' level of win or loss depends entirely on the skill of the Commander. The skill of the Commander at least partially relies on his ability to find his Marines. His ability to find his Marines relies on their sticking together. The biggest problem in the game at the moment is Marines NOT sticking together.

Simple answer.. get a good commander, and STICK TOGETHER.

He can lasso you on the overhead easier if you're all one group and not just going every which way. I *still* haven't lost a game as Comm from beginning to end, from 1.0 to 1.03 so far. Because I *ignore* the Rambos. They don't get any gear, healing, ammo, weapons, or anything else that costs RP. If they stick with the group, help out, and all the rest.. I'll be more likely to trust them with HA/HMG or HA/GL.. I'm not about to let a 50+ RP investment go running off on his own to LOSE that gear, though. If he's with others, at least they can save half that price by picking up his gun, if he falls.

good point. however im still not totally convinced. we had one of the best commanders and everyone was sticking together, using voice comm, it was great then we lost even though we had loads of massive bases.

but still, im going to play it more and when i win as a marine i will tell you.

Find me on a server, when I'm Commanding for the Marines. As noted, I've never lost a match as Comm, under any of the revisions.

In my case its half and half, course alot of the Kharraa loses can be pointed to the 4 gorgs on any given game. In one game we just had one gorg who finnaly told us he didnt even know how to build and it was 10 mins into the game.

Anyway, like I said, Half and Half.

I find the wins to be about 50/50. I'm almost always alien, and sometimes we win, sometimes we lose. Like a number of people have already mentioned, marine strength throughout the game usually depends on two things : the commander's ability, and getting the grunts to stay together.

Believe me, commanders intentionally ignoring their rambo's is quite evident when I'm hanging from the ceiling as a skulk. If I see one lone unarmored marine walk by, he's basically as good as dead once I hit the ground running. However, if I see a squad of 3 or 4 marines with a mix of guns (LMG/shot/GL), I'll either move somewhere else for different prey, or run in anyways and hope for a kill or two before being splattered.

Anyhoo, my point is, teamwork = strength. It applies to both teams, but even moreso for the marines. Too many people depend on the commander to win the game for them, which is probably why some people don't see marine victories very often.

if the aliens seclude the marines in their base without letting them get more than 1 or 2 resource nozzles, they win.
if the marines get a hive they will probably win.]
if they get two, say goodbye sucka ;d

This isn't bragging on my part, I'm just trying to enlighten anyone who may read this and go to command on the Marines..
First, it's NOT entirely the commander's skill. Yes, if you have a bad commander, the games already over. But you always need atleast 2, preferably 3 marines who can follow orders, too =P
Since the 1.3 patch was released I've yet to lose a game I commanded from the start. I lost 2 games that I took over command halfway through but that was by the time the aliens had 3 hives and we had lvl 1 lmg's (*sigh*).
The biggest misconception is that, Marines have to go resource crazy. It's not true. Aliens need more resource nodes because they get +1 per tick. If marines play properly, they can dominate almost every game. Have all your marines stay at ONE resource node, build it up, then move into a resourcenode/hive. You'd be amazed at how much you can build with 3 resource nodes. You get +6 a tick for your team if you have 3. That means you can get turrets up every 3 ticks. And it just gets better from there.
The hardest thing I've found is that, marines *have* to upgrade the ammo to lvl 3, in order to fight off fades. You either use lvl 3 lmg's or start handing out the HMG's. IMHO it's more 'cost effective' to go for the level 3 guns, because with kill/deaths off for marines, you can't tell whose a 'decent' marine and who js cannon fodder. And nothing's more irritating then handing a guy HA/HMG and watching him ignore orders, even if you never give him anything else the rest of the game, he just sits there and spams the comm saying "GIMME" and the other marines can't tell he's a bad marine (I cannot descirbe how much I hate the fact there's no kill/death ratios for the marines). IMHO the 'cons' outweigh the 'pro's' of having no kill/death ratio. It badly effects a commanders ability to command properly. You just don't give bad marines big guns when the game is on the line. That's why level 3 guns is more efficient, they START with LMG's, so your not spending resources.. unfortunately it costs the same as, what, 4 HMG's to get to that upgrade.
But anyways.. get and secure ONE resource node at a time, and you can pretty much gaurantee a win.
